I noticed that a lot of FTO's have a cracked seatbelt glider on the bucket seats. (that plastic thing you put the seatbelt into)

Anyway, I have ordered myself some new ones from a local mitsubishi shop for $17 each (less in some mitsubishi shops)

Part numbers:
Left MR743286
Right MR743287

really???

this tends to mean that the FTO has been in an accident!

(mine aren't broken)

I'm VERY surprised to hear that, I've only come across a couple.

ummm normally it just means the seatbelt is still in the guide when they pull the seat forward

I think they just have a "weak point" in them and after usage they get cracked (just wear & tear).
Maybe the ones which aren't cracked are the ones that haven't been used that often.

And no worries guys hope it helps out :)

No cracks here, well not in the seatbelt guide at least.

cracks?
what kind of cracks?

I am guessing that the cracks only happen if the seat gets moved (ie to let someone in the back) with the seat belt in the guide.

Moral to the story - only travel with 2!

umm... i flip the front seats all the time with the belts in the guide and this has never happened... in actual fact it seems to pop-out of hte guide automatically when i flip it forward

I do carry 4 people very often in the car, and flip the front seats constantly. Nothing cracked yet, in fact the guides are looking like a pretty strong material.
I suspect a crash or hard breaking if they are broken.

Yeah I don't see how you could break them unless you tried, or you were in an accident or something. Mine look brand new.

My kids flip the seats virtually every day and almost always the seat belt is still in the guide. Only occaisionally does it slip out, but even with it staying in there is no damage to the seat belt guides. I reckon some major force would be required to crack them.

That's where I noticed the crack always are.
The FTO seats I bought had them cracked
And I noticed about half of the FTO's I've seen are cracked

Maybe the cars which don't have it cracked are the cars that the previous owner (or seller) had them replaced?
ie. if you bought it from an import shop they might have replaced them with new ones (as they would buy them for probably less than $10 each)

Considering that they usually detail the car and remove little scratches before selling I think it is quite likely they would replace a cheap piece of plastic

judging from the bodywork (bumper brackets warped etc) my car has been in a few accidents though, so the theory that its caused by crashing is highly likely... hence, something to look for when you make an FTO purchase
