going through past topics there is a lot of "opinions" regarding this topic but I haven't got a conclusion.

I have a rather larger K&N pod filter that, as we all know makes a GREAT sound specially in MIVEC range. However, I don't have a heat shield or CAI, therefore it is sucking hot air.

Question:
Since I don't have a heat shield or CAI will the performance of my car suffer more if I use a pod filter with no CAI or heat shield? Am I better of staying with my stock air box?
Or will the performance difference be negligable? Coz if it is, I'll leave the pod as I love the mean sound it gives

or should I really put in a CAI (although homemade)?

what's everyone thoughts, experience?

Got an Apexi pod filter without CAI about 3 weeks ago,
I am in the process of building my own box, so will try to make a DIY for everyone.
However, I realised 2 differences moving from stock air box to pod filter without CAI.
1) Aggressive sound
2) Engine seems to be revving up to high rpms easier, I guess due to the reason that it breathes better. However, I changed my intake pipe as well which might help to overall breathing.

Engine is still sucking the hot air, especially driving in the city traffic, I realised that fuel consumption increases dramatically in the city compared to the stock air box. The moral is that without CAI, it is pointless to expect some performance improvement, but some great sound.
