Now im pretty familiar and knowledgeable with the FTO Electronics and electronics in general... but i cant for the life of me figure out what this plug is for (ARROW) it has red/yellow and pink/green wires (CIRCLED)
located in the dash just above the transmission shifter

Image

At first i thought it was for an old stereo which is no longer in the car, but

a) the colour of the wires (that match car wiring system)
and
b) the fact it comes out of the main dash wiring harness

led me to believe otherwise...
ive read the wiring diagram and still cant figure it out...

any help much appreciated :)

I would say that is the rear-screen or power aerial 'remote' connection.

The rear screen aerial is boosted, and needs the 'remote' power, or reception will be rubbish (I've heard).

A pink wire comes out of the back of that big white multi-pin plug from the head unit, heads off up with all the rest of the wires in the main harness, then comes right back out again and terminates at a small single-pin white plug. That links to anothter white plug, which heads off to the rear screen aerial.

Now, mine only has the pink wire coming out of that white plug. Yours also has an orange one. It may have been patched in there by someone for remote amp switch on... I just patched my amp remote EXACTLY like that... yesterday! :). That's why I recognised it.

Or the orange one may be a factory extra like a power aerial. Which I don't have.

Get yourself a cheap multimeter that does 'continuity' and DC voltage, and you can test everything. Like, I confirmed the pink pin from the multi-plug had direct continuity to the pink wire going into that white connector. Simple. :)

Hope this helps...

I have a power aerial that works fine so that rules out that theory...

will try with a multimeter tomorrow... good idea... why didnt i think of that

on another note im fairly sure my rear window heater doesnt work... but it think thats cause its split on the window...

see the problem is that with a plug there and with minimal room for it to move i would expect a socket to be somewhere in the vacinity...

the hunt continues

cheers

Have just gone over the wiring diagram again...

(have made it available for everyone HERE)

Page 28 says its an "unused connection"... maybe for something aftermarket? who knows... wierd though

Yes, if I could edit my last post, I would add:

*** LIES LIES LIES LIES LIES ***

At top and bottom. sigh.

I've just gone and checked yesterday's work... and there's a different white plug with pink wire that links to the rear aerial booster!

The one in your pic is also unused in my car, so 100% dead right mate. See the power of actually reading a wiring diagram, versus a swiss-cheese brain like mine!!

well, if you had a problem with the abs, once you fix the problem, you can clear the abs ecu with those wires.

the car's wiring looms should be identical through all cars... what this means is that they can have a car mostly assembled then turn it into whatever flavour is in demand at the time...
