Yep 1st reg'd in 2001.brought over by Ralliart because they got fed up of all the grey import FTO's coming into the U.K.
I think they only imported 200 official ones, all GPX manuals, all in Symphonic silver.....
Mitzi really missed out because they are very popular here, they could have sold loads
I think this was the last batch they made

Look, I love my FTO. Really do.
But you gotta love the monaro. Big car - big engine - big noise = big fun

!
No variable valve timing, no turbo, no 4WD, no fancy anything, but it is a lot of car for the money.
Yep, I would get one.

Did anyone watch the show "Rides" on Discovery Channel the other night?
They had a show about the drifiting, and showed when the D1 was held in the US.
And one of the cars featured was the Pontiac GTO...which essentially is the Monaro. But that car was amazing. It even made the top 16.
After watching that, my respect for Monaros went up a couple of notches! Still not a car I would buy though.

The manro is a good car, good for what it is! over here we get a 4 door version with a 3.8 v6 that takes up the majority of the family car market. so to us theres a bit of stigma attached to it
but the gear box as long as you dont go auto is good and the engine is out of hte corvet so heaps of mods for it for little money.
and if your into the v8 fuel consumption, go for it

hmmm monaro...
unless it was a HSV version... its kinda boring to me, yeah it has lots of power, but its still kinda boring??
With commodore/Monaros , theyve been having really bad powersteering problems, so i guess thats the major problem with them.. there are more problems with them, but im not sure if they are major...

Unless you spend heaps on suspension & handling they will always be couches with V8's... I prefer small lightweights...

The Monaro is a beautiful car, possibly the best performance car Australia has ever made. But the Monaro and FTO are in two different classes. The Monaro is more inline with the US muscle cars while the FTO is more about Japanese finesse.
Personally I prefer mid-size cars and love what can be done with such a small engine, others however prefer nothing but grunt.

have to remember the UK gets better suspension and a slightly better engine then we do. but yeah itll never outhandel a fto

Cheers for all your thought's, The one we get over here is the HSV,only we call the VXR,But they reakon BMW M5 performance for half the price.
Maybe i'll keep the FTO,more chuckable on our twisty roads

Yes, but did you see the review on top gear? Kind of changes your perspective on them a bit. Jeremy loved it, and said it was the easiest car that he has ever driven on the limit, or even beyond it.
True, it is still a big lump of metal, but you cannot compare it to the FTO. Completely different cars. Ideally, you want both - one for your long drives down highways etc (Monaro), and the other for a spirited fang through the countryside (FTO).
But for that money, why not get the VX220? If I had the money, that car would be at the top of my list for sure (oh, and if they were sold in Australia). Convertable, 0-100 in 4 seconds and out-handle basically anything on the road. Heaven!

I just saw the VX220 on a car video tape last night and fell in love with it at first sight! I jumped on the net straight away to see how much they were!
I used to have a small thing for the S2000, but after seeing this thing its now an S-what? whats better is its around the same price and if is a second hand one its MUCH cheaper since the Vauxhall in its name.... crazy huh...
I don't thing Holden will even try to sell it here since the engines only 2.2liters and turbo'd but most probably cos its not plain looking enough

Actually, I already had that test downloaded

.
But they are sooooo cool! How good was that Hilux thing? Funniest thing I have probably ever seen (well, it was pretty amazing!).
Getting off topic though - Monaro GTO = good.
There. That should do.
