Hey all ive had my Black 96 FTO GPX for about a year now, i love the car to bits but feel there is something missing!
Driftability, RWD, turbo, and masses of parts available!
i really like the RX7 (gen3?? like in the fast and furious) i dont like rotories
But i do like that not many ppl have a fto and they still are a really nice car..... im looking for pros and cons for either car please!

why should i keep my car?
thanks Duane

well from what i know.. fto : handlings suppose to be one of the best, fuel efficient, dont cost a lot, won japanese sports car of the year 94-95 :) and a beautiful looking car ... may lack power like other turbo'd japanese sports cars.. im not too familiar with the rx7 but i've heard dat they are pretty crazy cos of its twin rotary turbo engine :D.. But then they are hard to maintain and dont last very long because of the rotary.. well hope dat helped

The one in The Fast & the Furious are series 6-8. The Australian spec generally needs an engine rebuild, as we get the crab spec (Just like the RX8, Teggy Type R, WRX......etc). The JDM (import)version have a better engine, exhaust & intake.

The good side about the RX7 are the good looks (similar body line like the FTO) & have endless potential if you want power. Insurance are cheaper on series 6 then the FTO 8O (I checked the other day), cause according to insurance company, parts are widely availible from Mazda dealer.

The bad side are the fuel consumption, back seats are really for looks or "mini me". The body/panel are really soft, if you just push it, you leave a dint. But then again so is lots of other Jap sports car.

Well the RX7 is a very nice car.. but it's expensive(depending on the model you want) 2001 series 8 bout 30000Km goes for about 59-60K series 6, generally about 35-45K, its high maintence, high fuel consumption. But damn does it look nice.. its powerful, generally lots of mods for it. And there aint that many on the road..

Love the FTO. just great fun to drive, handles really well, sounds fantastic and turns heads wherever it goes. Looks far more expensive than it is, and is fairly unique (esp in newcastle).

But if I could, a series 6-8 RX7 would be in the garage right now.

Yeah Good Points! Im not to keen on the price and the high maintanence of the RX7, especially when my FTO has been in good condition and doesnt need any work!
Think ill be sticking to the FTO and throwing a few mods at it!
Thanks Guys! :D

I mayb b wrong but my understanding of left foot breaking, is to put more weight on the front wheels to give better grip and allow u to accelerate harder through a corner at higher speeds, it doesnt actually cause any oversteer.

Is that rite or am i way off??

When approaching a corner, you should start slowing down like you normally do, using your right foot to apply the brake. At this point, you can use the heel-and-toe maneuver and downshift to the proper gear. Now, you should move your right foot over to the accelerator and your left foot to the brake at the same time. You are now ready to perform left-foot braking. Continue slowing the car down to a reasonable - but not too low - speed by applying the brakes with your left foot. As you are about to turn into the corner, hit the gas with your right foot and keep braking with your left foot at the same time. Being a front-wheel-drive, the rear wheels will lock while the front wheels keep moving. The car's weight is transferred to the front, causing the front wheels to have more grip than the rear wheels. The car now starts to oversteer.

Do that too often and say goodbye to your front pads =)

You could do just by tapping the brake and wrenching the wheel, but that's more uncontrolled unless you practice it. Same with throttle off oversteer I guess =P

As the bias of normal brakes is towards the front wheels that procedure is not terribly compatible with a FWD car.

Ideally you don't want to be braking during the corner, you should have this all out of the way as you enter the corner. If for some reason you want to oversteer in the corner then take Eric's advice on how to do it.

well im definately selling my car next year and getting a RX-7. I know they have problems but the rarity and beauty of that car puts it in a different league to other imports.
Not one import has the same lsexiness, power, and handling as the RX-7 does.

I gotta agree, I luv rx7, series 6+

But my biggest gripe was price.. For that money, you could almost buy an rx8!!!

What annoyed me the most though, was how cheap they are to import, I saw a 95 rx7, go for about $15-16k AUD!!!!!

BUT!!!!!

Track use only, as since they were for sale in austrlaia, they can not be imported for normal use...

Thus, to get them on sthe street, you have to buy locally, for about 40-50k!!!

It's so screwed!!!!
