Custom bonnet

Ive been thinking, and vented bonnets definatly make a sports car look mean. problem is... the ones that are out there are either to expensive to import or too damn common coz there are only a few available to us aussies.

how much would it cost if one was to get vents cut into their bonnet in the ORIGINAL style of choosing. i assume adding a respray when its done (or can it be done without ruining the paint.)

also, would crap from the outside world, such as grit dirt dust rain what ever damage the engine if it got sucked in, worst of all into your filter.

i guess one could have the vents as purly show and have the underside connected to a funnel that will flush the shite sucked in directed safely under the car or whatever. reasoning for this is, if the vents are real they would only truely work for a turbo (for any REAL gain) nothing apart from a turbo is worth doing to an FTO. its the best bang for buck. big bucks but big power too. ive decided im not wasting anymore money on the car performance wise unless to get it turboed.

but is there a way of designing the vents so that air can be sucked in and actually benifit you car while the rain and dirt blocked out, or directed elsewhere.

just wanting suggestions or actual facts if anyone has done this. im seriously considering it, one way or the other, meaning for looks or performance.

before you do it, are you aware that this will probably effect your road worthiness and insurance?

So is every single little mod anyone had done on their car. So why don't we just let them do what they like, cause you mention this everytime someone put up a post for a mod, well except for your own. And by now I'm sure everyone is aware of road worthiness & insurance.

LOL!

Most little mods aren't, but most which deal with safety or structual items are.

I added the warning as Pagan is still relatively new and may not have known. If he had added his message to the other various threads already covering custom bonnets, I wouldn't have worried. :D

If you're refering to the lighting mod I posted, the legalities have been raised.

As long as you don't cut the skeleton structure under the bonnet you should be ok.

If you cut those legs then you have to get an engineered.
But as long as you don't cut that you can put as many vents as you like, so good luck guys...

I'm also thinking of doing some thing like that as well but can't seem to find some one who would do it for a good price here in Syd.
:)

vents also must be rearward facing, no sharp edges and must not be such that a bodypart can be not be forced or sucked into it. Then theres the visability thing, but that should be cool with fto.

You can buy air vents that stick on your bonnet from Super Cheap Auto. They cost a total of $8. If you are just after looks, go for these. It is the cheapest mod I have done on my car :)

Tell me what you guys think

Speaking of stick on. I saw in Super Cheap, stick on exhaust pipes that V8 supercars have on their sides instead of the back...

For $8, I couldnt go wrong. If I didnt like them, I could have thrown them away. You wouldnt do the same with bits of carbon fibre coming out of your body kit!! :P :P :P

I think they will be coming off very soon anyway. I have some plans for the front of my car.
