I know this has been covered in many other threads, but I'm actually after very specific information.

After other people's recommendations I've decided to use the Redline Shockproof transmission oil.

Is it the LIGHTWEIGHT variety which suits the 5-speed tip box?

How many litres of it do I need for a full flush? (I think it comes in 900mL bottles).

Does anyone know a place in Melbourne where I can buy some?

When i did mine, it use almost 5L, so get 5L just in case.

Hi guys, regarding this issue, got some Qs to ask.

Did you guys know that there is a machine that is used to flush the ATF.
The entire capacity of the ATF reservior is 4L, the capacity of ATF in the torque converter/gearbox is 3.8L total is close to 8L.

By changing onli 4-5L, effectively, it only replaces the ATF in the reservior.
The remaining contaminated ATF oil is still in the torque converter/gearbox

The ATF flushing machine actually replaces all the ATF in the whole gearbox system in order to fully refresh/replace it with clean ATF.

Using a simple example of a cup of tea and teabag, when u finish your 1st cup and pour in new hot water, the teabag will still be able to give a another cup of tea. This means that your oil will never be clean if u onli change the oil in the reservior.

I normally use 12-16litres of ATF to fully flush the gearbox.

I'll have to ask the places where I got quotes from whether that's for a full or half flush.

Just checked the Workshop Manual and found out that the FTO takes 7.8L of DIA QUEEN ATF SP II / DIA QUEEN ATF SP II M or equivalent.

easiest way to flush the Auto is to disconnect one of the pipes that leads to the raditiator from the box and then turn on your engine... it'll pump the oil out through the hose so make sure you've got a receptor there for it... don't worry about it dripping too much there's not a heap kept in the radiator (if you do it on an angle like on car ramps)

And does any one know how much it'll cost to do this at UAS?
Has any one done it there yet?

If so, what's the price you paid for it?

Last time I got a quote and it wasn't cheap as I was told!

I know the word "oil" has been used in this thread, but more correctly we are refering to transmission "fluid". Unlike manual gearbox oil which is primarily for lubrication, automatic transmission fluid plays a part in the workings of the transmission.

So in essence, we're really talking about two quite different things here. You really can't draw a comparison between manual gear box oil and automatic transmission fluid.

umm i'll find out tonight and let you know... it'll be the heavier one most likely


Seung: manual is about 2-3 litres...

the auto generates heaps more heat than the manual so it requires a lot more oil... also has a torque converter which needs oil

Yeah mine took about 10 litres to flush but it doesnt make sense doing it halfway as was mentioned earlier...make sure you change the filter as well.
