Fuel Consumption

Hey people, i currently have a Honda Accord 2.0Si and will be buying an FTO in the near future. (my brother will also be getting one so watch out for us in Jan on Melbourne roads cruising together). Basically chose the FTO for its looks and being NA over a petrol guzzling turbo. What i can't find out off anyone is a realistic fuel consumption figure for an auto/tiptronic GPX V6 MIVEC. Could some peeps let me know there average figures? My Honda is currently running very rich and i use around 13L per 100km (supposed to be 8 or 9L) is the FTO similar?

Any feedback will be much appreciated.

Cheers Peter.

The FTO is closer to 10L/100km or 10km/L depending upon which way you look at it :D

Hang on, I could hardly do 400km w the full tank and not pushing the car at all ???
I though my fuel consumption is around 12lt per 100kms, (in the city)
Always thought that the car is running rich!!!

Better clean my air filter I guess.

400km out of a 60L tank = 6.7km/l 8O

The worst I ever get is 8km/l and that is city driving, hiting the MIVEC regularly, climate control on and a tiptronic transmission.

Based on other threads in this forum which cover this topic, most people average between 8km/l - 12km/l depeding upon driving style, condition of the car, transmission and whether they use the aircon.

Might be time to service your car

You might also want to do a search and see what other people have experience and some of the things they have done to car the economy.

60 ltrs tank?

I tough my tank was 50 litres, as when the indicator nearly comes to the "E" (dont wait till the red light), I fill up my tank, and can only take in, the most, 40 ltrs. And I always reset my tripmeter to see how many klms I do.
So, say 40 litres fuel, can only takes me around 370kms, which makes around 11-12 lts per 100 kms.

Is this too rich?

I dont drive aggresively at all.

370km from 40 litres makes more sense.

Your tank should be 60L. From memory, at the "E" empty indicator you should have around 15 litres left, when the warning light comes on you should have around 6-8 litres left. When the car stops you have no petrol left :P

Thanks for the speedy replies guys. It would seem at any rate the FTO will not cost me any more than the accord...something that i am really pleased to hear. as soon as i get my FTO i will post pics of it and update them throughout the mod process...my bro will have one before me so i'll get him to join this site and post pics of his ride as well.

i usually get about 400-440 km on a full tank (from full, until when the orange light comes on, for maybe another 30 km).... i take it easy most of the time, i have air con on most of the time, half of driving is in city/peak hour... other half is on freeway/highways etc.....

first thing's first: welcome to the club :D

my car used to avg around 580kms per tank (with less than 10 litres left) when the fuel warning indicator comes on and that comprises of 30% highway cruising and 70% daily traffic. Oh and there's the frequent squirts to the redline at least once a day ;)

nowadays, i'm not so sure... my car is running very rich now so I'd be lucky to see 500kms per tank, if not less LoL...

You may find that the fto will cost more from a different perpective:

>> Maintanance
>> Insurance
>> Repair

So hope you both do your research, because after getting mine, yes, it's silghtly expensive, but it's worth it

well... i think my cars prolly the best to go off because it

A) jsut recently got a newish engine put in
B) has no mdos to speak of
C) cus i do 600k a week

my experiance has been this
8l on the highway
10l tame driving in the city
driving like a MIVEC maniac somthing like 11-12l

and by drivin like a mivec mainiac i MEAN driving aorund red lineing it all the time

10l is my average though

if your hitting higher then this and driving gently get your car checked +++

i should also note that that is with aircon set to 25 degress windows up all day

i think though if you looking at an FTO, if you can afford the insurance, fuel shouldnt be to much of a concern becasue hte ftos fuel consumption is about the same as a holden astra

if you want an econamy car with all the sex get CRX with the VTEC YO!!!!! engine, cheaper to run cheaper insurance + targra roof (95 models are even automatic roof)

but if you want a performance car thats cheap to maintain an relativly cheap on insurance
the fto is the way (faster then a CRX with a LSD and more street respect / less rice car)

turbo cars have much higher insurance (unless you get a celica gt4 but there just toooo heavy and who wants to look like a celica?)
turbo cars are higher maintanace then the fto
fwd is a bit safer/ the fto is VERY forgiving with screw ups
+ my manuel hits 100k an hour in about 6.2 secands un moded, this is faster then any stock skyline gts-t

looks, goto the crx
power and cheapness, go a GT4 but she wotn handel very well
for decent power, handeling and looks with not to high a living cost
get a FTO :P

I average just under 10Km/L spliting halfway between city/highway driving.

Thanks guys...the replies have really lifted the question mark in the back of my mind. In response to Borris i would have to say that the only thing that wil cost more for the FTO compared to the accord will be insurance, however as i've just turned 20 it will probably work out the same as when i modded the accord at 18...(to bad for my bro who is getting an FTO as well...he turned 18 two months ago)

And Paladin i'm the only one of my mates who drives NA right now and with petrol as it is i'm going to stick with it....i have heard that the FTO handles like a go cart which is something i cant wait to feel....and as for looks the GPX is damn sexy even in stock guise...man i'm salivating right now just thinking of having one of these puppies in the driveway! :D

Thanks again.

g-tech pro mesurment :P

new engine + manuel = kick some fuckin ass

as for stock handeling... after driving a gocart.... yeah other then the fact the fto takes more turns on the wheel it is pretty simuler in that you cna keep pushing it and let the back end hang out and forget about it
its so cool!
the car can get a bit nasty when pushed to hard but recovery is vairly easy compared to a lot of other cars :D
