Where are all the holes in the firewall?

Well, I can't really find any specific information about this topic, so i decided to ask.

My mechanical oil temperature gauge has never worked, and I recently bought the same one, but a working one, so i'm trying to instal it.

My old gauges sensor line, runs into a hole on the drivers side, where all the electrical wiring go, the gauge line follow these under the wheel arch, and out into the the engine bay. This way seems very hard to me, as i'm having trouble even pocking a finger through that hole it's so tight.

Also, the actual sensor, is as wide as probably a 10c coin, and I really don't want to run the line under the wheel arch.

So, I know there is a hole for the rear windscreen tubing on the passengers side, but that is also priving to be quite small, and painful.

My questions to you fellow owners, are:
a) Is there any information or diagrams, in the fto manuals about this?
b) What other places are these holes, with plugs located?
c) Also is it feasible, actually drilling a hole in the firewall?

Don't quote me but i think drilling further holes in your fire wall isnt allowed, at least in victoria! Again im not certain but i think it makes your car unraodworthy, double check though as im not sure :?

I managed to fit a 0 Gauge cable through the firewall to power my sound system. You have to take the grommet out and feed the wire through. It is on the passenger side..

Is that hole, around the to the left of the glove box, around the bottom of the globe box in the corner. Does that hole also carry the rear washer tube?

While I haven't looked for them in the FTO, it is generally easier to find the holes from the engine side than from the cabin side.

Yes it sounds like the same hole, but I dont have a rear washer on my car, nor a rear winsdcreen wiper. That is probably why I could fit it through the hole. Nothing was going through that hole.

Have to bring this one to life.... sorry...

Well, fitting a mechanical sensor is a bitch, especially that is the size of a 20c coin.. I basically drilled a hole the firewall.

You just have to be carefull to know where your gonna poke out with the drill bit.

The two holes one on the left oen on the rights were all a little bit to tight to run sensor and battery cable through. So now i have my own hole!

But since, i got oil temperature guage now, i'm amazed at the temperatures. I suggest any one that likes spirited drives gets one...

what temperature does your oil get up to? perhaps an oil cooler is next on the mod list? :wink:

really not allowed to put holes??? ?

oops... putting holes is easy enough to do just double check the inside before drilling... and make sure you use a grommet so that you don't wear out the cables against the metal.

I'm amazed at how slowly it heats up! like after 15 minutes in the cold conditions, still not warm! It has changed me heaps, before after 15 minutes you would of seen me redlining it!

Normal lazy driving it stays at about 80 / 90 when i'm giving it a tough go, goes up to 110.. Should be interesting to see what it goes up on a track!

I think my temperatures are fairly normal i would think. so atm no need for an oil cooler... only if i start doing track work i think...

Yeah, and like steve said, use a grommet!
