Idk, I've had a minivan try to race me... and Utes always want a race to. I just don't give them the satisfaction, not worth the wasted effort.

I will only race other sports cars. If your car has 4 doors, I'm not wasting my time to race you unless you're a WRX or Evo just for the lols. Also refuse to race if there's a lot of cars on the road too lol. Therefore, I end up barely racing anyone ever. I don't think I've ever properly hit redline yet.

To be honest I think FTOs are slow enough such that most new 4 door cars will beat them in a race, and some old.

eg, certainly Falcons and Commodores are faster?
All 4 door BMW's are faster (new ones at least), Mercedes, Audi etc.
Aurion etc.

My daily driver is a 2003 Mitsubishi Verada and to be honest I think it should be faster than an FTO too.

Not a question of whether or not the car is faster, I just wouldn't bother simply because it isn't worth it. If I'm going to race anyone, I'd rather it be against a car I deem to be respectable. Yes, most newer cars would thrash the FTO which is why I'm not going to bother racing against every new car on the block. All in all FTO wasn't built to be fast in a straight line now was it? The problem is everyone sees an FTO and immediately thinks it's fast and wants to race you. :( Therefore, I'd only race someone in a car that I think would be fun to race; coprende?

Have you ever actually taken the car out on the track?

Red Light Warrior :D best kind of victory is when the other c**t didn't even know you were racing

Seriously though I drove a 2001 Verada and I reckon it was about the same as my Auto GPX, I prefer the car a lot more, handles way better. I also find WAY more people want to 'race' now I own an FTO, it makes sens though, the car looks sporty and Japanese, bound to attract attention... Red P doesn't help :P

Only once Ben. Don't get the chance to do much. But yes, red lights are where most of the guys try to "race", after a car meet, and on the freeway late at night. Racing on mountain roads are much more fun as opposed to red light races though >.>

Yes, this is my main point. Sporty look = More attention = People who want to race. Including people trying to race you in their not so sporty corolla. Which is just a nuisance and will only get an eyeroll out of me, not a race.

My mistake, the way I read is that you were under the impression that the FTO is faster than most family sedans.

Mezje, the 2001 Verada only had the 4 speed auto, the 2003 Verada has the short ratio 5 speed auto so it is a lot faster.
And yes granted handling wise there is no contest.

Overall I think even if the FTO wasn't designed for straight line speed, it could have had a bit more.
And think could have been primarily done by having better gear ratios etc.
Maybe a tiny bit more power (I read that 150kw is an overly optimistic claim)

Not really. Mivecs have 147kw, and remember that's measured at the flywheel. A decently healthy, stock(ish) mivec FTO will make around 110/115kw at the front wheels which translates to close to 147kw considering how old they are now. They just aren't very tourquey, so they don't feel as fast as they are.

Having said that, 147kw isnt very much.

Yes, which is why small performance mods are worth it on the FTO imo. Piggy backed ECU, upgraded exhaust, cooling pipes, CAI system with a ram pipe, shaving the heads to boost compression and port matching....etc

Yeah, to give you an idea I make 300 rear wheel horsepower on 8 pounds of boost (which is standard for the FC). All I have is ports opened up (bridgeported), a Microtech and some fuel mods.

What do you think the weight difference between the 6A12 and the rotary engine is?

Well, I can move a rotary around quite easily along the floor (we have them at the Mazda training centre) but a 6A12 is significantly more difficult to move. Maybe the 6A12 is just more awkward. Haven't weighed either of them though, so not sure.
