Unique: Throttle Bodies|Intake Plenum and Manifold

Post by smorison »

Hi guys,
we've done some testing now... (not on my car) and it appears that a larger throttle body will make a difference. This is after breathing mods such as the Unique Engine Pipe and Unique CAI Stage 2 Kit... hopefully in the next week i will have dyno and flow bench results on the changes...

keep in mind that a larger throttle body allows more air... this can only be of use if you have the ability to deliver more air and the ability to scavange out the exhaust fast enough...

(topic modified to show all parts in development)

If you could tell us how much it'll cost as well would be great...

This is some thing that I have been looking to do but wasn't sure of the effects...
I am also told that you might even have to adjust the ECU...is that right?
But by boring out throttle body I didn't think you would have to do that...

Well that's what I thought any way...

Thank you,

After any mild-to-serious modification it is a good idea to reset the ECU to allow it to discover the changes and adjust itself.

The more mods you have and the more serious they are, the more you can tune it with an aftermarket controller or piggyback device. This will however require a lot of dyno time to get things right.

Steve, I see your little scam. You are trying to SEND ME BROKE! No real developments for a while and then you hit us with the CAMS & the throttle body (and don't mention the suspension  ).

Ok, guess I need a second job...

Bascially we've increased the ID of the throttle body by 4mm (expert opinion on max size)

smoothed out the insides of the entire intake plenum (all parts)...

also steve on the topic of modifing the gr intake, i was looking for a new mas or a larger one because that is a major restriction do you know if any other mitsu ones are bigger, or less restrictive and would work with the ecu ?

no pricing yet i'll have that soon...

I was thinking about that last night (And spoke with rob about it briefly)...

the LS1's are now being tuned with a "MAF"less tune... not exactly sure how it is done... basically you're going to need a piggyback computer and an additional sensor... and then you can throw that thing away and use our CAI kit :)

i honestly don't know if its possible to do to the FTO but i would imagine it can be... cost is going to be pretty high (2k or more)... but at the same time you'll have a piggyback tuned properly not just running an airflow sensor of some kind so its not that bad a price.

Are you going to supply a complete new intake manifold or will you be doing an exchange system.

I have a friend at the moment who is modify my intake manifold.
He said he has taken out heaps of meat, and he also said there are some parts of the manifold which do not flow well and are restrictive.

Hopefully there will be a good gain from it.

exchange basis... keeps the cost down... ;)

i hope to have the flow bench results in the next day or so and i'll post them up then...

The guys actually did more than i thought they were going to (the large cost of the prototype now isn't so high in my minds as they did a lot more)... one of the biggest areas of concern is even distribution of air to all 6 cylinders ... the flow bench results will hopefully show this.

Did they increase the size of the butterflies, inside the manifold. As my friend is looking into this, the only problem is that they are an oval shape rather then a round shape which will make it a bit harder to make.

i'd wanna make sure before leaning the mixture out .... youre probly right that its tuned rich outta the factory but on individual cars, i'd be scared of saying that more fuel isnt needed ....
