So, a few months ago I replaced the motor in my black GPX with the one in a silver GPX that I bought for $700(Bargain, right!).
Thing is, with the new engine the tacho doesn't work. I had a couple of occasions where it worked for 20 seconds after starting the car, but after the two or three times that happened, nothing. In the brief few moments that I drove the silver FTO, the tacho wasn't working in it either, so I'm thinking it is something to do with the engine.
I perused through some old threads on here and many times the Ignition Failure Sensor has been to blame, So I'm thinking this could be the cause of my problem.
I can live without it, but it is hell annoying, so I was wondering how much roughly (if anyone knows) it would cost to get a new one put in and how long it would take.
Tachometer not working.

It's almost 100% the IFS, if you still have the old motor then swap the IFS over between them, otherwise they're not all too expensive.

Yep, thats what itll most likely be. Ive got new or used ones if that helps. Even better, grab the one off your old engine if you still have it.

Re: Tachometer not working.
The most common sense option of grabbing it from my old engine and I never thought of it.
I'll do that!

Re: Tachometer not working.
Stupid question: where on the engine is the IFS located?

Just near the thermostat housing if I remember correctly. Below it or next to it

Yep, about an inch closer to the firewall than the filler cap, but about 10-15cm lower (probably need to remove intake pipe to see it.)
