Hello everyone, I'm looking into buying an FTO for my first car as a P plate driver, and I've been noticing the 2 different bumpers FTO's come in. The bumper on the FTO in the picture on this link > http://www.diseno-art.com/images/mitsubishi_FTO.jpg < is the one that appeals to me the most, and I've noticed that it's almost always available on white fto's, compared to the standard front bumpers like the one in this picture > http://www.cars-directory.net/pictures/ ... _12082.jpg <. I was just wondering if the first bumper mentioned comes in specific FTO models, or if they're available for purchase separately to replace the standard front bumper. Thanks!

Any FTO built 1997+ will have the Front Bumpers you're after, stock. They are referred to as the "Facelift" models. Facelift bumpers are aware as aftermarket bumpers should you desire them... I believe. Best to consult the other members too though, don't want to buy one and have alignment issues ahaha ;)

Firstly, welcome to the club

Yep, they changed to the one you like in 1997 and there arent anywhere near as many of those as the earlier series. You can put the later model bar on the earlier model car, but there are a coupleof things tobe aware of:

- The metal structure that attaches to the back of the bar is different between the prefacelift and facelift. If you attach a facelift bar toa prefacelift metalstructure, youcan fit the bar to the car just fine, but the one thing youlose isthe bracket to boltthe foglight to (inner light in faceliftbar). This doesnt bother most people asit isnot a legal requirement.

- The parkers in the earlier model are in the oval lightwhich contains indicators, foglights and parkers. On the facelift (later model), the parkers are in the headlights themselves, so to be legal you either needto relocate the parkers to somewhere else, build them into your existing headlights (thereis a DIY) or get yourself a set of facelift headlights.

As for the bar itself, I can get you an aftermarket facelift bar if you are happy with sorting out the above. Looks like this (second picture down):

Thanks for the welcome, dstocks!
I will hopefully be getting an FTO within a few weeks time and if I end up buying one of the older modeled FTO's, I will PM you about the aftermarket facelift bar if I decide to replace the front bumpers. Thanks for the reply as I was unaware of those things that you have mentioned. I will keep in touch with the ftoaustralia community for further inquiries and can't wait to get one myself. The FTO's in the link you provided are all amazing, especially the blue one, that one is just simply beautiful! Thanks again for the help :)

Thanks. All the same car though!!. That would be my FTO - It is white under the blue vinyl. I can make copies of front bar, rear bar, sideskirts and fenders atm so you can get pretty close to that look if you like it.Thinking about getting a mould of the bonnet skin as well.
