It's Starting To Look A Lot Like Xmas......in the FTO

So a few months ago I decided to replace all interior lights with LEDs.....

Now one by one they're doing some crazy xmas light sh*t. What I mean by that is one light will stay on for a while then momentarily turn off for a few seconds then come on again.....and over a few days this increases in frequency so that towards the end the b*stard is flickering like a strobe light and then eventually doesn't come on anymore.

It started with the ciggie lighter light, then the CC fan controls, then the clock and now it's started on the temperature controls. WTF?

Are there any pine needles under the seats?

Google search says cheap LEDs.

I'd tend to agree, especially if they're dropping dead.
That's assuming they were appropriately packaged for use (having the correct resistors to drop the voltage enough)

Thanks for the google search. I might rip one of them out at some stage and see if it's the LED that's fried. Fingers crossed it's not the wiring.....the LEDs did have inbuild resistors but NFI whether they were the correct ohms for the job.

You could just check the wiring by putting one incandescent back in and check if it does anything funny brightness wise.

Only other thing I could think of is the alternator if it's not regulating voltage well.
You'd also get severe voltage changes when you're cranking the car.

I'd (anecdotally) used to have cheap aftermarket headlights blow earlier if I cranked the car with the headlights on.
No idea if that actually have any effect or just got a bad batch of globes *shrugs*

In any case, I don't generally start or kill the engine with my headlights or park/accessory lights on because of it. Might be completely bogus, but it's just a habit I've picked up now.
