Are bonnet pins necessary for my fibreglass bonnet or not?
Bonnet seems pretty flimsy on the sides while only being held down in the middle by the latch. Anyone actually had bad experiences without them?
They look stupid. But if it's dangerous not to have them , then I may aswell

Not necessary ... But a good idea...
I had my f/g bonnet fly up on my Evo when doing 110 down the motor way ... It was not fun ...
I think Taz had a bonnet fly up on him as well ...
I have not had a problem with my FTO which is c/f and f/g, and have had it for a few years now... But I run the risk ...

Yeah, only a problem if it's 80km/h in a backstreet.
I never had a problem with our Carbon bonnet, but it's better to have the pins there.
I have lost a bonnet due to improper latching, but that was purely my stupidity, no fault of the bonnet itself.

And I still say that was either installation fault, or not closed properly ...
With my Evo, I know I popped the bonnet before I left... But only to let a bit of air in, as the vents in it were getting too hot, and had previously started to melt.. (right above turbo manifold)... I think I left the bonnet just resting on the safety latch ... And when the wind got under it, it blew up ...
Basically what happened to Taz... But rather than blaming the bonnet, I blamed myself, as I could not remember fully closing it before take off...
As I said though (and touch wood), the bonnet has been on my FTO for around 4 years ... And no issues as yet..
I do have flush bonnet pins to install, but have not got around to it as yet...

I have a fiberglass bonnet on mine. I use the AeroCatch bonnet catches;
http://www.aerocatch.com/
They can be a pain in the butt to install though.
But mine sit flat on the bonnet, legal and very secure, they also have a lockable option on a model

So....
Pins aren't legal, even on an OEM bonnet?
News to me.
