Could High revs damage the engine?

Just wanted to know, if your constantly thrashing your car with high revs would it wear out the engine? I hear the FTO engines r designed for high revs, but I've notice my car is starting to make rattling sounds, sounds like a truck.

Depends on where you go... ~$200 to ~$500 I think
It will only damage it if:
a) Your engine is still cold
b) Your engine is overheating
Well, that's what I think anyway...

If you in Melbourne, you can go to
SL Motorsports, & it will cost you $250, as long as you mention FTO Club of Australia.
There's more information at the following post.

WHile the FTO is made to rev, don't forget though that an engine that is always on the limiter will wear out parts quicker than an engine that only reaches the limiter some time.

Mine has spent 2 years being revved to 8000rpm on motorkhana courses... no problems so far. My wife's 1 year old Magna uses more oil than the FTO!!!!

I've read articles about 6a12 motors in Galants happily reving to 10-12k all day. Of course they're non-mivec. I'm thinking of moving the rev limiter on mine to 10k when the governor is removed. The first fto to break 300?

i doubt the 6a12 can rev hapily to 12k, if so major mods would of been needed.
Also 300 isnt possible with the current gear ratios, people are already maxxing out top gear in the UK.
With any car, higher revving the engine all the time compared to revving it normally, its common sense the engine revved less is going to last longer.

i'd say u'd reach somewhere b/w 250 - 270
u'd need a 6th gear in the manual to reach 300 or a 5th gear in auto?

I will try find the article, it was on the net somewhere so I will post a link when I find it. I think the cars were for some kind of hill climb event, (or other motorsport).
I agree totally with the other members though, a car car revved to 4000 will wear less than one revved to 8000. However, revving you enginge to 8000 will not damage it, just make it wear faster.
As many of the other members must know, the Mivec 6a12 purrs along at 8k.

LOL!
We've been down this route before and done the various calculations (many should remember this

). The FTO won't reach 300kmh because it doesn't have enough power to overcome the drag caused by its body shape.
As for reving the enging to 12,000rpm my first question would be why? Peak power occurs at around 7,500rpm and as you continue above this the power drops rapidly, so at 12,000 the engine is probably putting out less power than at 5,000rpm.
