So I tried reversing yesterday evening and I felt an awful shudder and loud noise coming from my front right wheel...

Upon inspection, I found that the caliper had come off from the rotor at the bottom and was scraping the inside of my wheel

So I've been told the culprit is a caliper bolt coming loose. If I took it to a local mechanic, how much SHOULD this repair cost? It still seems to brake fine when I move forward, but sh*t hits the fan if i dare reverse, so back off the road it goes

A loose caliper bolt will take them like five minutes to fix. Normally a place charges minimum half an hour or an hour labour , plus the cost + possible profit on parts.

It should be like 10 bucks... but realistically, if it really is just a loose bolt and nothing else wrong, then it will probably be about 50, if they charge half an hour labour minimum. Can't you just do it yourself lol.

Is there anything wrong with the actual hub or caliper itself? or are you simply missing a bolt? Is the thread in the hub still good?
Dwayne will have a million bolts (if he keeps them) for next to nothing and its a 2 second job taking off the tire and putting a bolt back in..
If the thread is rooted, then it might be cheaper to source another hub, and put it in yourself rather than paying someone else to fix a thread and new bolt + labour etc when a hub would probably only set you back 50 etc

Not me personally, but for an F1 pit crew, yes - a tire rotation in 8 seconds is more than do-able and this is what i was referring to

Didn't even need to take the wheel of for this fix, full lock FTW

Top bolt was a little loose too, but I sourced a bolt from the local mechanic for free (legend), marinated it with loctite, and it all went to plan! Did the same for the top bolt, and all is fixed now. I am a happy FTOwner today.

Breaker bars work better

Or just borrow Sahin for a day. He'll undo everything in your engine bay and under your car with his bare hands.

Agree, you don't need loctite on caliper bolts, u just need to torque them to the correct setting.

And I would be having a look to see if there is a reason why they came loose in the first place (other than the most likley, not torqued correctly).

Let's just hope he used the blue loctite instead of the red one...

What happens if overtorqued?

In this instance I was more referring to undertorqued, but to answer your question, you can weaken and/or snap the bolt.

I've never had a bolt I couldn't undo... And never have I used a breaker bar lol
