Fuel Light Issue

Hey all.
Not sure if my fuel light is working or not.
When I go to start the car, all the other warning lights etc on the console light up, but no Fuel Light.
I've also run the car til my fuel indicator is below empty, and still no fuel light. How far into empty do you need to run before the fuel light comes on?

The fuel light does not come on when you turn the ignition on.
I have noticed that when my fuel gauge is empty, I still have about 15L in the tank and the fuel light starts coming on when I'm down to about 5L.
Just keep a filled jerrycan in the boot and drive around until the fuel light comes on (or your car stalls)

Yea I had that the other week. Forgot to fill up and only noticed when it was too late (I live in the middle of nowhere). When I finally got to a service station I was nearly out but still no light.
Moral of the story, don't rely on the light haha

Well apparently ours aren't, or the sensor is in the wrong spot

I have had my fuel light come on, on the 2012 Bathurst trip.
I filled up at home and drove the entire trip on the one tank, refuelled at a local petrol station just before arriving home.
I drove 850Km's in the trip, was showing empty at about 650Km's, fuel light came on at about 750- 780Km's or 5mm under empty just as the needle got to the letter "E".

Yea ive pushed it pretty hard recently.
When i first got the car it was on the E - started shitting myself cause i didnt know how much it had left and i was in NSW back country. Panicked for nothing only did about 15km on the E. Ive been a good 150km past the E now, as phil said it can take a good 50-70km with the light on.

How did you manage to get 850km on a singe tank!?
I used to do a lot of freeway driving(85% of the time, @100km/h) and the maximum distance I can get is about 550km before the fuel light lit.
Stock car with no mods, and no hard driving.

I get 550 driving around the city - 850km sounds very reasonable to me.

I get similar results to what Phil and Taz get, around 550-600 city driving and 800-850 mostly freeway driving.
If you aren't getting this then I would suggest changing your fuel filter, O2 sensor, spark plugs and air filter if they haven't been done recently.

My speedo reads the same as my GPS.
I got the 850km on the Bathurst run and it wasn't all easy driving either, we drove back via Wisemans Ferry Rd
Vectose and ZFL45H1 can vouch for me as I was whinging on the CB worried about making it to the petrol station.

Yep.
I filled up at Bathurst, did 450KM on about 35L. And that was after the first "spirited" drive.

I also get about 800KM on highway driving, never fully tested it though.
I also can get about 70-80KM on the fuel light

and also get the same reading on my GPS as I do on my Spedo
