How do I adjust my hand brake? I was leaning on my car and it started rolling even with the hand brake on. How high is it meant to be?

With your fingers, just pop out the cup holder in the centre console. Just under there is the adjustment. Just need a 10mm ring spanner. 10mm ratchet ring is better ;)

Imagine if that happened on a slope, oh my god I can't think of anything more frightening

Better question is why wasn't the car in gear or park? Disturbing trend the amount of people who don't do that...

Assuming an auto, an even better question is why would you get out of the car without having it in park and thus leaving your keys in the ignition..

Agree, used to do that in my laser as a L plater, quickly learned to ALWAYS leave it in gear, even on a dead flat slope

And after struggling for a day, i cant hold it in any longer.......HAND BRAKE

Fairly sure an automatic car wont let you take keys out of the ignition unless its in P.

Unless that mecahnism is broken from owners constantly trying to make it happen.

Meanwhile, I don't know why you'd purposely break your hand. I'd put a Handbrake on doing that personally. ;)

On the very end, gold nut closest to the front of the car.

Better specify here for them Bennoz, that you put it in reverse if facing forward down a slope, and 1st if facing rearward down a slope.

Plenty of gen y's on this forum

And of course that's for a manual gearbox 8O

And don't forget to put it back on neutral before starting it. :)

Says the 'do' who now has my MANUAL-less NX. :troll:

And actually, my wagon has the handbrake on and in reverse. (so it doesn't roll out the garage)

How do you adjust the caliper end of the mechanism?
I'm guessing the piston turns, but what kind of tool is needed? Or is it a custom made type of thing?

And I need to do that because the 2nd hand calipers & pads I've bought to fit onto my Excel won't fit over the rotor.
I'll adjust inside later (to motorkhana spec  )
