Fto Roof Rust help please!

I noticed these little bubbles a while ago but as my licence has been suspended i haven't done anything about it and i may be regretting that now!
Also my Fto is Pyre Black and i hear the black colour seems to get the roof rust easier or worse than the others.

Over a few months it has gotten a lot worse. There are around 10 little bubbles / blisters on each side just behind the front screen and just in front of the rear screen on my Fto's roof. There is also now a little crack behind the front screen in the middle of the roof. Im worried water will get in there and make it a whole lot worse!

Is it too late for a DIY job??? I heard that it will cost around 2k to get this fixed professionally, and obviously i want to avoid spending that!

All your help will be much appreciated!

I have the same problem with mine, you're not alone!

I went to a crash repairer and was quoted around $2400 to fix it, as it involves a complete respray of the roof...

Obviously being me I just ignored that and now it's worse lol. I'm planning to just sand it down, treat the rust, and vinyl wrap the roof to save the cost of a respray, and to give me the chance to attempt something different...

Get rid of the glue. That will slow it down. Heres a guide:

Ooor, you could save yourself the money and make it a permanent convertible. Without the ability to convert.

The problem in just fixing what you can see is that it will simply happen again and become worse.

The issue lies in-between the roof lining and roof skin.
If this area is not treated properly as described in the link by Dwayne, then you simply face spending more money down the track.

Do it first time, do it properly.

i.e. don't :geny:

Yep, first time I got it done on the blue FTO in the link, they just bogged it up. Bubbles were back in 3 months (and bigger). As Dan says, get it done right or be prepared to do it again. And eventually, the roof will start leaking.

Maybe coz I'd polished the rust bubbles to a blindingly bright finish, so you couldn't look at them
