Intake Questions

hey fellas,
ok so how restrictive is the stock fto intake? the only thing i changed on my intake was the pod filter.
i was thinking of just making a intake up out of some silicone bends, and some steel pipe, seen bennoz mentioned it in another post.
or would i be better of buying a intake like a weapon R intake or a UAS intake if i could find one.
what do use think the better choice is ?
any other input would be greatly appreciated

I don't understand why it's such an issue when people don't search.
The effort it took you to comment would have been equal to that of finding the link for him and posting it.

Hmmm, right above the gearbox and right behind the radiator?
I thought the point was to keep the air going through the intake as cold as possible to make sure those precious oxgen molecules alive, which requires cold air?

No he is not being a f**king dick about it at all, the search button is there to be used.
But yes the factory intake is restrictive and should be changed out.

hey man i remember going to the UAS at seven hills when i picked up my front brace and the guy said he had 1 more UAS intake setup for the FTO
maybe you can give them a call and check if he still has it, but this was like a month ago, but its worth a shot

thanks for the reply's fellas, i had a read of all the link and the best option is prob the UAS intake but for the GR its just a corrigated hose, i think ill make something up similiar to this

thats not a bad set up. do take air velocity and temp into consideration. Open pod sound better but i did not see much gain on my FTO.only 2kw (dyno tested)
the length of the pipe plays a role as well. i had ARC inake and didnt gain much(have 65mm TB btw) when i was tuning my Interceptor, took it out on the spot and replaced with a pipe something in the picture but longer and the gain actually increased. we believed that the arc and big TB did not match well as the air velocity had decreased. so maybe planning ahead is good like the airbox and length of pipe, moving battery to boot etc.
We all know that dyno are just numbers but i did bolt on parts comparison so gain yes but dont the numbers is just a guide

well i suggest to enclose the pod just for defective reasons, ive gotten defected how many times coz the shield UAS provides isnt 'fully' enclosed lol so made a box with a direct pipe for cold air.
im not a 100% sure why but just by the name 'CAI', maybe itll be better for cold air going into your engine? i dno someone can correct me haha im not an expert

i still have the bottom of my stock airbox my pod sits in it, i was going to make a heat shield for it something similiar well in looks to the arc box but yeh ill have to map everything out first. ill post pics up when i actually do it but wont be for few weeks

Cold air have higher density thus more oxygen. more oxygen means better combustion = better power

Cold air = higher density = more air in the combustion chamber = more fuel to maintain afrs = more power

+1. Even with searching it's still easy to miss posts that would be helpful. Members here may direct the person to the exact topic they need as they have seen it before.

Indeed, maybe if there is a good post about "CAIs" or "sparkplugs" or "your mum" then it gets edited so that it is the 'GO TO' thread and then locked. Instead of having to search through all the crap that people keep posting you just go to the 'Help' section or 'I.C.E' or whatever and it's there, at the top, unfucked ready to spill out all it's juicy info
I know I got really frustrated trying to find stuff on search the other days because there is too much crap..

The only way to have any truly conclusive information on intakes is to book a day at a dyno, allocate a car that has basic modifications (extractors) and can be tuned (ie has a piggyback or full ecu), everyone brings their intakes along and each one is tuned and tested, same car, same dyno, same day. The only way to do a comparison.
