Quick question, has anyone tried adding/replacing their gearknob gaitor/handbrake gaitor's?

because, I just got a new gear knob, for my baby, and her and the current gearknob gaitor don't get along very well... It does also seem very difficult to replace it, as it's quite a short shift, and most of the ones, I've seen arround are for longer type shifters, plus, it's actually attached to the console, so, I don't know, how to even take off the old one really...

As for the handbrake, I think it's easier, I also just got a new handbrake sleeve, but I needed to take off somr of that plastic surrounds for it, so I need something to cover it up... I think any standard universal one will do, but I'm curious about your experiences??

Please help me, as right now, my interior is in all sorts :p

I've got a tip, so i can't tell u much on the gear knob.

Hand brake wize, i just cut the whole plastic bit off, & replace it with the leather/chorme one, just one screw to tight it, simple.

what exactly is the gaitor??

fto338, what sort of handbrake cover you've got?
i'm looking at the momo ones, but for 230$ im deciding against it...

Its just one of those OBX one, but it looks pretty good.

oh the gaiters are the boot cover... silly me...
i cant remember having difficulty taking mine off...but im sure i had to unscrew my stock gearknob to get it off...
take off the centre console, bottom only, then you'll see 2 screws jamming a piece of plastic and the stock gaiter together.... and unscrew those 2 screws...
i have replaced mine with the momo gaiters, and yes they are longer than the stock ones.. .so i just screwd it halfway off the length of the gaiter...

So, how did you exactly go about screwing the gear gaitor on, when the new gaitor was longer? I still havn't purchased the gaitor yet, but i'll need to soon, and have no idea how/what they look like... Are they're screws in the gaitor already? Or did you have to put holes in them?

What about the handbrake one? Is that easy or hard? Any tips on putting them on?

Where did you get your gaitors from? I saw some at Autobahn, but both like the gear and handbrake were $40 each... seemed a bit steep, but yours look great.

$40 is cheap! good leather ones are like nearly $100 - ive seen at autonahn too but dont realli like the look of those....

if anyone knows where to get a good quality handbrake sleeve and handle - please let me know

Like i said before mine is a tip, not a manual, so i wouldn't able to tell u how to do it on a FTO, but from experience when i did my other car, u just twist the knob off & screw the new one in, you just have to make sure u getting one for mitsubishi or the thread pattern would be different & won't fit properly.

Suprise suprise i brought those handbrakes from Autobarn when they were on sales, cost me $45 bucks, & it is leather.

so you can see my momo gaiter was screwed from half way its length...
i didnt achly puncture the gaiter, with the screws, jamming the plastic bit was enough to hold it in position...

heres a pic of my gear knob and gaiter... oh, and that momo knob is for sale... any offers?? above $40 please hehehe

Damit if mine is manual your Momo gear would be a perfect match.

for anyone interested, I just bought a handbrake sleeve and leather gaitor from product F in the UK. I know i probably could have got cheaper here, but I dont have time to look around, and this looks to be good quality. If only the UK pound had a better xchange rate!

ok, the handbrake cover and gaitor arrived from type F products...

all good! just remember its a permanent mod, as once you get the handbrake sleeve on, it wont leave the original in very good shape! so if your not sure about it, dont do it.

i personally think it looks much better then the original fto handbrake.
