staggered wheel sets

just a quick question for members,my mates got a 95 supra, its got 17x8s on the front and 17x9s on the back,35 and 38 offsets.
im not familiar myself with staggered wheels but the thicker wheels look good on his car.
have any members used staggered sets on their ftos, would the above sizes and offsets fit an fto,
and what tires would be needed to stop scrubbing out,was thinking 215/40/17
ive always thought an fto looked like a small supra so maybe they might be ok
any info would be appreciated
ive got 17x8,,,35 offset all round on my fto with 215/40/17,and they never scrub

Not staggered wheels

But we have 235s on the back with 215s on the front.

Gives a meaner look IMO.

But it wasn't intentional and won't always be that way.

17x7 all round.
215/40 front
235/ 40, maybe 45 rear? can't remember.
no scrub, rears are easier to accommodate than the fronts.

you can run 235 on 7" rims?

Might do that next time. Wonder if i could get away with 235 on the front?

I've got 235s on the front, but no under guarding.

235/45/17's all round for me, if the offset is right you don't need to take out the guards. But I removed them because I could ( less weight  )

Yeah, ours are 45 series on the rear.

Thought they were as the tyres look much bigger, not just by width but height also.

Love the look

My mate used to have 18x8.5 front and 18x9.5 rear with good offsets that gave him no inner rub...

I have 17x8 all 4 corners, but fronts are 215 and rears are 205 - Did that intentionally

Yeah I was gonna say...

you can have staggered if you want. But in a FWD car theres no point unless you are gonna put the bigger at the front lol.

Otherwise its just for looks.

Not necessarily just for looks.

The wider rear means the ass can't break traction as easily on a corner.
Despite being FWD, you can still fling the ass around, having more rubber will simply make it a bit harder, however will also cause a slight bit of understeer, but negligible.

got the staggered wheel set, looked perfect on the back the 17x9s,with 235/54/17 filled the arches perfectly although id need the guards rolled for speed bumps etc,but unfortunatly when i started a test drive i heard metal on metal rubbing, the wheel was hitting the suspension, not the spring part but the paralel arm going to the car body,my problem now is i need spacers, will i get 3mm or 5mm ones, yes they will be slightly out from the guards, and i will need a lower profile tyre to give it more play so rubber dont hit, sad cause the thicker tyre looked really aggresive, and then hope i dont get the cops on my tail,,lol

do tyre places allow you to try different rims and tyres on, to see if they fit?

The tyre size was fine,no rubbing, prob was the 17x9 rims have an off set of 38,which makes them rub on the suspension, not by much though,3 or 5 mm spacers will give me clearance,i got these wheels from a guy on ebay that had them on his supra, wish i had of tried before buying

was wondering if its legal to drive around with bigger profile tyres on the back to the front,i think 235s on a 17x8 wheel will rub on both the plastic under guards on full lock out one side, and the metal under wheel arch onthe other side, have had 205s on front on a 17x9,,35 off set with no drama,,that may be to lower profile, might try 215,,i dont fancy the drag car look if its too much differnce in profile

just get some 10mm spacers and you'll be fine. Just need to roll your guards.
