Hello,

Does any one know if there are any K&N pod filters that'll just fit directly on to our stock air intake pipe?

A friend of mine is constantly telling me that i need to get some kind of piping that'll hold the air filter. Something hard. He is saying that the stock air intake pipe is too flexible and will not be able to hold the air filter...

Is this right?

If so, where can I get these piping from? I have no idea...
I have searched on the net as well but can't seem to find any....

Many different K&N filters will fit.

You don't need to replace the stock piping, but if you want to, why not look at the solution that Steve & UAS put together? It will help with air flow as it is less restrictive.

It will pay however to get a stand-off bracket to hold the pod in place, they normally cost about $6 from Autobarn.

If you want more info on choosing a filter, do a search as this has been covered in-depth in a number of other threads.

Just make sure u clean it regularly as it does effect the performance of your car.

ummm.... I'm sure it would have a part number, but I haven't got a clue what it is

They are always located around the air filter / air intake area and is in a shrink-wrap pack hanging on the wall (blue packaging from memory). It is a straight piece of metal, about 6 inches long, with a 90 degree bend at the top. It has a number of screw holes along the length of the metal and has a brassy colour. I'm sure if you asked at the counter they'd be able to show you it.

To use it, you loosen the expandable clamp that attaches the pod filter to the intake hosing and slip the 90 degree bend inside the clamp (obviously this will be on the underside). When you tighten the clamp it is held snuggly in place. Assuming you have removed the existing airbox, use one of the screws that held it in place and attach the bottom of the bracket to one of the screw holes in the chassis where the airbox used to be. You'll need to bend the bracket to do this and likewise to get the air filter to sit where you want it to, but once done it will be nice and snug.

as long as there is an expandable clamp holding your airfilter in place and there is a screw hole in your chassis where you can attach the clamp, you shouldn't have any issues.

i had been looking at apexi air filters - and the actual filter can be bought for about $100, but to buy the whole kit e.g. brackets etc it cost another $100+!! its ridiculous!

therefore if i just buy the filter, and then get one of these support brackets from autobahn, it should be a much cheaper solution?

Its not hard to make a bracket yourself, if u able 2 make it to the next Vic meeting, i can show u what i done. Cost u $10 max

what parts make up the kit? I'm guessing there's more than just a bracket for $100. It may also include a size adapter and a heat shield. Got a pic or a link?

measure up the standard filter then check out their websites they should have the dimensions of the panel filters and tehn you can find the part number,....

hi Ruchi - i dont have the pic.... all the people that sell it, just show the box..... i know mikey has the full set up in his car.. not sure if he has a pic.....so does slither i think...

There is no heat shield included, that im sure of, and 95% sure that you dont need a size adaptor? from what ive been told, you literally pay another $100 just for the apexi bracket holder - but I could be wrong....

I only ask cos the apexi filter sells for $100 on ebay, as a stand alone product with none of the brackets... perfect run and hypertech sell the full kit for $214 & $250 respectively....
