Effect of DIY work on value?

Im doing some DIY paint (the engine cover and brake calipers) and along with some custom interior colours, I was wondering how this would effect the value of my FTO. I am definitely not ever planning on selling my FTO and I will drive it until it either blows up, the wheels fall off or it simply becomes an absolutely endless pit of money, however I was curious as to wether or not the DIY work (done properly, not dodgy) would add to or lessen the value of my car?

The only thing that will add money to the value of your FTO, is if you sell it with a full tank of gas.
Only serious modifications will add value, and even then, its a small percentage compared to what you'll spend on it. For instance, I've spent almost 80 grand on my car & I'd be lucky to get 20k for it if I sold it tomorrow.

So custom paint on the calipers and engine bay among other things wont decrease the value at all?

If done tastefully & properly, no.

So long as they aren't done badly, generally not.
