hey there,

first off i did a bit of reading before i posted this,
my car is a 1996 mitsubishi fto GR

im not a car genuis so if certain things dont apply to fwd let me know cause i think most of the stuff i read applys to rwd

with the exhausts i read p platers cant do the full exhaust only the muffler and upto the cat box or can p platers do the whole shabang? and whats the best size for performance 2.5 or 2.25?

and read putting a CAI will improve performance cause its denser but is that legal for a p plater.

anything else you can do with out going internal? and does any of the above require a modication plate or engineer certifcate i think the exhaust would yeh?

and whats the best psi to run with 17inch rims and not sure if its stock tyres lets just say they are.

any other things i could do?

You will be fine to do anything that doesn't require a mod plate.

Exhaust, ECU, Rims (up to 2" up or down), CAI.

The Recommended PSI should be shown on your tyres. They arn't stock because stock are 16".

wttc aswell, i wouldnt put too much moolah on a p plate car but if u must insist, i wouldnt exceed exhaust/intake, headers at most, ecu would be way too costly. ftos got enough power to fck around with, id recommend spending your money on making sure the car is in as good mechanical condition as possible, and some sound system work - thats just my 2cents - each to their own right?! enjoy!

If you're located in vic, im pretty sure that any modification which increases engine performance is illegal.
That being said...a cop won't have a clue if you've got a full exhaust including extractors or a whole bunch of other things you can do.

I really dont think that would be the case, as most of the evo's/wrx's etc are either in NSW or VIC, and the spartan ones are almost always in VIC - it really is the state for modified JDM cars, and for most of the car population to be illegal wouldnt make any sense, and then theres the blurred line between what would be considered increase in performance - i mean technically replacing 15 yr old engine mounts will technically give the engine more 'performance'
But this is australia, so it wouldnt surprise me that much knowing theres that stupid rule floating about...

i agree with the above comments start by doing a full service oil oil filter fuel filter plugs leads check all drive belts engine mounts o2 sensor this will make the car run a lot better and might even be cheaper on fuel

if you want to spend some cash on p plate mods there is
pod filter
exhaust
lowered springs
neons
sound system
alloy wheels
seat covers
floor mats
they are pretty much the top p plates mods

Ummm....you do realize this is about platers not the general population?
You can't drive an evo in vic whilst on your p's.... you also can't drive a wrx....

engine mounts won't increase your engine's performance. I'm talking hp/kw.... etc etc

I think I'd be a lot safer in a 350z which isn't p plate legal due to it's 230kw v6 engine...
Well f**k at least it has airbags, better/newer brakes/susspension etc etc....

All these f**king rules are just stupid. You can drive like enough of a c**t to kill someone in any vehicle.. doesn't matter whether it has 300kw or 150kw...

some people think its the car that makes you a good driver thats why we have the restrictions you would not want a 17yr old in a wrx who thought he was rally driver on the road?
but its the dodgy people f#@king it up for every one most people mod there cars to a state better then factory like bigger brakes aftermarket suspension bushes coilovers bigger better tyres etc very rare you see or here these cars in the media in an accident its mostly commodores corollas etc with cut springs 17'' wheels with bold tyres etc and the police assume we all do this i mean its not hard to tell if a car is moded right or is down rite dodgy.

I must say that's one thing I do like about the New Zealand system, there are no vehicle restrictions for learners and restricted

Whoever made the restricted cars list in nsw for p-platers has no clue what he is doing. As for your car if u want to start adding mechanical mods make sure know what u r doing and get it done by a professional. had a mate who started fuking around with the mechanicals to improve 'performance' and screwed the whole car

im glad p platers have restrictions, there are already too many idiotic p platers out there who think they are immortal, some even have to learn the hard way after getting into an accident. like the other night there was a p plater doing burnouts at maccas producing a sht load of smoke and everyone just thought he was an idiot.

just use your car to get from A to B thats all you need your car to do lol, save the money to get a better car on your fulls
