Just noticed the below guide seems incorrect?

Adjusting the position of your Throttle Position Sensor

Symptoms I had when my TPS needed adjusted were erratic revs, at exactly 30 mph in third gear, just what you need when driving in town in a tip car! However adjusting you TPS is a breeze.

Tools you will need,

Screwdriver, crosshead type
Pins, sewing type
Multi-meter
0.65mm thickness gauge

For cars without Traction Control

Place the thickness gauge between the fixed SAS, the speed adjustment screw on the bulkhead side of the throttle body, and the throttle lever so the throttle is very slightly opened. Then push the pins through the two wires on the engine side of the TPS and attach to a digital OHMeter. These are wires 1 & 2 and are the actual switch of the TPS.

Loosen the TPS until it can move then turn it clockwise as far as it will go. Check that the switch is ON, ie that there is continuity between the two wires. Now turn the TPS gently anti-clockwise and find the point at where the switch opens. Ie you have no continuity of circuit. Now tighten up the TPS.

To check the TPS output voltage push your pin in to wires 1 & 3, turn on the ignition but do not start the engine, the output voltage should be between 400 – 1,000mV. If there is a deviation then check the harness and the TPS itself.



To adjust you need to test pins furthest away from the engine which is sensor ground and switch.

You also dont back probe the wires but pull the connector off and hook your multimeter terminals directly to the tps.

Yup I had to change the original as I got the terminals wrong when I wrote it.

And my multi-meter wouldn't go on the terminals which is why I used pins.

Too much sh*t goes wrong electrical wise with the Fto. My tps is screwed who's got one to sell?

What's efa?? Stick to the fords falcons man! 300000kms never serviced or taken care of and I swear on my life, my mums life no engine sensors have gone.

I adjust mine through my eManage as it tells me where it is and the voltage!
I couldn't figure out how to do it that pin method either...

Pins 3 and 4 harness off until you lose continuity and 2 and 4 to test the sweep.

Had one spare tps two dead spots on it. One at roughly 2v and another at about 3.8 volts.

Current one has a dead spot at roughly 4 volts.

Easiest way to adjust is without the thickness tool and get the tps output to be .63 volts at closed and Make sure the output is at 4.5 volts at what. Harness on.

Guess how much Bursons wanted for a TPS from ACA?? $470! hahah even the guy was laughing.

f**king every sensor I bloody test on my car seems to be screwed up.

Also there is two FTO TPS. One is for FTO's with traction control and one not. How the hell are you meant to tell the bloody difference if there is no part number on them????

TPS is not compatible anyway as its got traction control! haha.

Adjustment at 0.62 volts works a treat. Converter lockup is perfect. Never have got the adjustment so bang on using the continuity method.

Can i test that tps in mine? I have traction control but it doesnt work anymore and i know the wheel sensors right cos tcl light comes on when i do skidzzzzz

Yep just back probe pin 3 which is second wire of engine side. Ground the other probe to the right wire (black)

Should give you a voltage reading. Other mitsubishi's with 4 wire TPS's recommend a output voltage of .63 volts with throttle shaft full closed with ignition to on position.

At what the voltage of the TPS should be around 4.5 Volt.

Get in ya car and push the accelerator down slowly and the voltage should rise from .6 to 4.5 in proportion to your throttle input So pedal push halfway should give a voltage of 2 and a bit volts.

As long as the voltage sweep is smooth (keeps going up and does not drop) and there are no dead spots (no continuity) then the TPS is fine.

I had two TPS and both are screwed. One had 2 dead spots and the other had 1.

If ya copping shift problems I would test all the speed sensors.

No i have a manual and TCL doesnt kick in round corners or when im doing a hektikkkk skidd lol

The TCL light however lights up green when i lose traction but it doesnt ACTUALLY work.

Been like it for nearly 1.5 years now.
