Has anyone here actually bought ball joints seperately from somewhere here in Aus? I know they are replaceable & am sick being told I need a whole new control arm, thats rubbish.
I understand Pedders can do them, but they've got no part numbers on record. Can anyone confirm if its the same as Lancer or Galant? Or even Magna? It'd have to be the same as one of them...
Even Mitsi ASA tells me to buy a whole control arm. F*cken lying computer program

Ball joints also known as tie-rod ends right?

They are from Autobarn off a lancer.

Nope
Technically a tie rod end (part of steering rack assembly) does contain a ball joint, but I'm after a hub ball joint (connects hub assembly to lower control arm)

Have you got a pic of the part you want?
Is it like one of these?

I went up to Pedders today we went through their entire Mitsubishi parts database & there are only 2 possible types. One is from a TJ Magna, the other a CC Lancer. The Magna one being slightly larger in diametre. I've got one of each.
I'll pop one in tonight, so I'll soon find out which type it is.

Bennoz from memory ive changed mine and they were no special order part and think it was a magna part.
Nothing to changing them you need to press them out. Easiest was is to take the ball joint and arm to pedders and they will press out for a 20.
I had a play of 2-3mm on mine so that's enough for a change.

I pressed one out tonight, wasn't hard to do, but I didn't take DIY pics, will do so when I do the other side
Yeah, its the Magna one, but the smaller of the two (39mm dia vs the 42mm) which is also the same as a CC Lancer.
They weren't all that cheap at about 50 bucks each, but thats far & away better than the $460 Mitsubishi want for a whole lower control arm
My car had developed a 'click' on take off, felt like someone flicking the firewall hard they were that bad, not to mention the wandering wheel. Im not surprised though, the car's done 165,xxx kms. 30k odd of that with a turbo motor.
The tie rod end is also a ball joint, the only difference is it isn't pressed into a control arm, it screws onto a steering rack arm.

Please do take pics, and make sure to write a review on how the car feels after you replace both!

Did the tick go away???
Defiantly a must if your ball joint has play!!
I always wondered about Mitsubishi dealerships. They have no spare parts and wonder how they fix a car when something goes wrong. Go to a Toyota dealership and they are stocked up to the roof!!

All done! Fixed the click
Car feels slightly better, a little tighter in the steering as you'd imagine. Will need to get a wheel alignment now to give proper feedback.
Took plenty of pics so I can do up a DIY too.

My car has this small knocking sound when I take off as well as the wandering wheel, would that be the ball joint problem?
Would love to see a DIY

Bennoz will you still do a DIY?
Also, did you find out if there is an option for longer ball joints to alter the roll center?

I can when I get back to Syd. I kept all the pics.
Dunno about different ones, I just used direct replacements.

Jack the car up and see if you can rock the wheel when grabbing the wheel at 12 oclock and 6 oclock.
