You will probably cop a bit of "well, you shouldn't be speeding" lectures...
So here is one ... Even to overtake, there is never permission to speed .. Limits are in place for a reason ... You speed, you take the risk of being caught ...
It is not a case of Grrrrrr to the technology, but more should be Grrrrrr to yourself for going over the limit... I have lost my licence due to speeding before, but was never upset in the fact that there is technology to get caught, but more that I was dumb enough to break the speed limit, for an instant dismissal... Better to be caught for that, then taking someones life...
Tough break, though ...

I don't disagree with your post, the law is the law and if you break it expect the consequences, but personally I think this is wrong. If you're passing a slower car, truck or caravan on a normal road (ie not a motorway) it is much safer to accelerate around the slower vehicle and complete the pass as quickly as possible vs trying to overtake a caravan doing 90 when all you can do is 100...
All this does is lead to road rage and unsafe overtaking. IMHO
On a motorway of course this doesn't apply.

True .. In a sense...
Ideally, and if everyone was actually polite on the roads, the slower driver would slow for you to over take, and thus enable you to pass at or below the limit. I remember driving with my old man when I was a kid, and the slower vehicle would pull a bit into the breakdown lane (or extreme side of the road) to signal to you to overtake. This was back when people had manners...
The problem with people speeding to overtake, is that once over the limit, the feel they can control the vehicle, and actually continue at speed for longer. Thus meaning that your 5 second speeding to overtake was more like a km ... There was many education session about this, and a lot of statistics that were thrown around back in the day ... Needless to say, it is always something I have remembered.. (well not the stats but the theory) ...

My partner has much the same view, and regularly enjoys excessively speeding in order to overtake.
Yes, slow cars are annoying, especially when they don't have the manners to allow you to pass, but one of the main skills that driving requires is patience.
Dickheads who drive slow should not be allowed on the road, but at the same time, those who lack the patience to deal with those dickheads should not be allowed on the road either, because if one of you was to cause a crash, it would be the smartass overtaking.
That said, I only manage to remain patient by convincing myself that one day I shall have the chance to give the bastard a serve when I see them down the street ^^

My mum always tell me to drive slowly when on the way from newcastle to sydney. but i always corrected her: carefully not slowly.
BIG DIFFERENCE!
lets face it, everyone speed once in a while. We drive FTOs for god sake....
but do prepare to face the consequence if you get caught.

^^^ This - couldnt agree more.
On the note of it is unsafe to speed, there is a lot of things to say either way. YES it is unsafe to speed but under certain conditions - the driver and the car being the major ones, as if you have an unsafe driver in a burnt out pento speeding, it is a lot more likely hes going to end up in a tree over a confident experienced driver in a well equipped car with good brakes etc etc, However it is taking a gamble either way. Im not for or against the idea as there is too much variables to make an informed opinion.
I shall however point out that last year almost 3 times more accidents were caused through distractions like mobile phones rather than speeding. In saying that there were still too many speed related accidents. If you are going to speed, intentionally or unintentionally safely or unsafely it balls down to be prepared to deal with the consequences of your actions, whether that be taking a ticket or having to deal with the parents of the person you just killed etc. If you cant do that then dont do it. Simple

Be it intentional or by a laps in concentration what ever it is we will speed, it's a given.
We all just need to take what comes to us if your done for doing the wrong thing.
When it comes down to it if you want speed hit the race tracks, cheaper and safer

Well duhh obvioulsy i should of been speeding, but i only over took the massive truck full of cars because i was going 10ks under, i was choking on the fumes from the truck, and i now have a fear of sitting behind trucks as a few weeks ago a truck dropped a massive rubber thingoff the back and it slammed into my car wrecking the fron flipped up and nearly landed on my windscreen we were doing 100ks so i was pretty freaked out
im old enough to know right from wrong, yes i was speeding but i had a reason to overtake

Your clearly not old enough to take responsibility. Yes, we all speed, but we can admit that we shouldn't have and it was wrong. We don't try to justify it and say that we 'had a reason to overtake' because, there is never a good enough reason. We do it, it's wrong, simple. Get caught, it's your own fault, simple.
