GPVR Questions

Hi Ive had a GPVR on my list of cars to own for a while now and I know they are a little more optioned out than the preface lift models, but I was wondering how come you dont see as many GPVR's around compared to the older models.
I take its because not as many have been imported, but is thier any reason for that?
Also I havent seen any turbo conersions done to the GPVR's im sure they have been done but its not somthing I have come across.
Im thinking the GPVR's are the same mecanically to the pre face lift's so turbo conversions would not be a problem?
Lastly is thier any reason why the pre facelift models are better than the face lift's.
I hope im right in thinking that the face lift models refer to the GPVR's and pre face lift refers to GR GP & GPX Models.
Thanks

OK,

GPX went from start of production(94) to end of production (2000). GR became GX in 98 odd. GP came out in 96 and became GP Version R in 1997. Engine wise, pretty much exactly the same except for LSD and MAYBE a chip upgrade (with little difference). So, facelift doesnt mean version R. As for numbers, you need to look at the production stats. 7000 odd in 94, 16000 odd in 95 and from there it declines. There werent anywhere near as many facelift models made, which is why they are rarer. Just as easy to turbo as a GPX. They are actually better than earlier versions as you get airbags (and a few other options) standard and dont have the roof rust issues (which may not matter to you at all). Other than that, pretty much the same.

Hope this helps

cheers

94-97 gpx and gr prefacelift
97-99 Gpvr, gr, gpx facelift
(I am probably missing a few that Dwayne has outlined above.) but put simply there were gpxs all the way through. Gpvrs were a "sports" version, and were made alongside other forms of facelift Ftos.

Facelifts were from August 97 to July 01 and included GS, GR, GX and GX Aero, GPX, GPR and GPR Aero - so basically all models except the GP and GPX limited ed were "facelifted".
20,074 in '94
9,741 in '95
2928 in '96
1960 in '97
1033 in '98
616 in '99
and 160 in '00
according to wiki anyway - not sure if theyre reliable or not, but gives you a general idea on how the facelift models were vastly outnumbered by pre-facelift models, and thats production stats, not ones that were actually imported.
There is a thread here somewhere that outlines the features of a GPR over a GPX etc somewhere, im sure someone will link it or searching for it wont be too hard.
Off the top of my head i know the suspension was uprated, LSD, HID lights, different spoiler, recaro styled seats, and the items left out were sound deadening, fog lights, electric folding mirrors and a few more i think. Cant confirm the chip upgrade - i always suspected but never knew so i dunno.
Theres a 30ps difference over non mivec models at 7500 instead of 7000 but apart from that like dwayne said, no other engine differences between the GPX and GPR.
Personally im starting to think i would of been better getting a pre facelift GPX/GR as you have a lot more options to mod it like the non airbag steering wheel you can swap out (unlike facelifts) and it is easier to turbo (which doesnt make the GPR/GPX impossible, just got to do some homework and get it right the first time) but you would lose things like LSD so it all depends on what you plan to do with it.
GPR's also tend to sell for a bit more because of theyre rarity, features and being later model than most others.

Those production figures arent correct. When I reverse engineered CAPS (which has all the chassis numbers in it) it ended up more like the figures on the below link:
