Windscreen

On the way to Mallacoota I got a crack in my windscreen.

Bout 12cm long, on the drivers side, head high, coming from the right hand side.

I got told by O'Brians that it's in my critical vision area and can't be repaired. I got a quote from them for $765, including labour for a new windscreen.

1) Has any one replaced their windscreen?
2) If yes to 1, then may I ask how much?

Would there be any place willing to still repair it? Considering it will be sorta breaking the Australian Standards...

Thanx Rob,

I think you meant "Novus".... cos it was the only one I could find with that name.

They sound good, AND they have a branch in Canberra, will call them tommorow. Hope they can fix it.... :)

Well. today I gave Novus a call, and a nice gentleman on the other end told me that yes my winscreen in fixable, so today a mobile ute came round and fixed my windscreen, it took around 45 minutes.

They told me that it wouldn't looks like new but the crack would be by 80% less visible and it has a guarantee not to spread.

Looking at the result, the work isn't bad and i'm quite happy with the result, as it is hard to see the crack, how ever you can sorta see it more in different light.

It sure is a good temporal fix, for $75, instead of paying $765 to O'Brians for a new windscreen.

So in the end, if someone has a windscreen crack that is 8" long, I recomend Novus Windscreens, they have places throught out the country.

Sounds like it was fast and very efficient Borris..

Hopefully my windscreen stays out of any troubles, but if it doesn't, I know who to call...

This are their branches:
 http://www.novuswindscreens.com.au/branches.html

Try to find a place in Melbourne that can actually repair it so you can't see the crack... If that is possible, cos I can slightly still see my crack... (Sounds bad eh? )

Cos in the ACT, I aint got much choice... with repairers...

Mine has a crack aswell on passenger side. Should check with your insurance because i think i have one free windscreen a year. Have to find the paper work to check again.

So how many people got there windscreen crack from the trip.

Yeah, thanx Patty, I checked, i didn't have a free windscreen... :x
I think about 3 people that I know of got some sorta of damage... Ahwell...

Atleast with yours, cos it's on the passanger side you may be able to get someone to completely remove the crack...

have you seem robb's and my front bars / bonnets. We've done a lot of country driving and well unfortunately stone chips are just something you have to live with :? :x

the general rule is don't follow too close and you will avoid stone chips...

ah that totally sucks...

yeah well if your tailgating the stones don't get a chance to get too high... but you run the risk of a rear ender...

Yeah, funny though, there is like a stone chip zone behind our cars...

Like Steve said, too close they will go under, or hit your bumper, and in the "zone" they will hit the winscreen, and too far away, they wount hit.

Maybe we should all put mud flaps on cruises ppl  :P
