Timing Belt/Water Pump/CS seal Replacement.

Hi Guys, searched everywhere for a heads up on this with no luck.
Any how-to thread around on a water pump replacement? I stripped out the cam covers etc to do the timing belt and see the water pump is obscured by all the compressor/PS brackets and associated bits..looks a bit like a right pita.
I thought a MR2 was bad enough, but this looks worse, like it was intended to be that way..even the CAS cable arrangement looks like it was intended to piss you off. lol

There's no how-to because it is such a massive pain in the ass

Most folks roll down to their local mechs for that
You've gotta get that Power Steering pump off, there's a bolt in behind the p/s pump bracket that goes throught the water pump. Its easier done with the motor out to be honest!

Hmmm thought that might be the case. Timing belt is simple enough, water pump looks like it was never meant to be replaced.
Well looks like I'm elected to be the first to do a heads-up on it, not going to button it up without doing the pump, and not paying some repair shop to learn how to screw it up -:)
Never again will I buy a car with the engine sideways! lol

yeah pain in the arse jop but the p/s pu,p is easy to get out once you done it a few times
rest is straight forward just time consuming and tedious

Yeah, the usual thing. though I was surprised to see how easy a belt change is, and there's no need to drop the engine mount like the BGB says, don't know what's the go there.
Haven't started on getting the PS pump bracket loose and removing the engine support bracket yet. Do you need to remove the radiator or can you get that top corner bolt from the front without doing that?
All this for one friken water pump bolt!

Well, glad thats out of the way. Not as hard as it might seem, but a bit of a pain the way the engines been put together.
I can post up a bit of a how too if anyone is interested, that wants to do theirs, otherwise I'll just be satisified its done.

Ok, wont bother with that then.
BTW needed a replacement alt belt idler pulley..Mitsu wanted $210 + tax.
Magna bearing from Autobarn at $39, plus turn down the base insert to 4mm at $25 = replacement thats better than stock for 64 bucks.

The GMB pumps are very good quality, japanese OEM manufacturer, and about that cost. The others I'm not sure I'd trust on an interference engine. OEM is stupid expensive.
You'll need to replace the timing belt (Gates racing blue) and bearings, and cs/cam seals if any signs of leaking. Not really a major pita to do, just looks that way at first, until you strip the timing covers out, pull the radiator/fan assy and get the ps pump loose.
A few tricks to learn like loosening the aircon/ps hardlines and zip tieing them out of the way to the inner guard..no need to remove any, and remove the ps bracket in one piece, otherwise you'll have a job getting the lower bolts back in place.
About $260 in parts if you shop around.
