i did a search before i posted this, but i just needed opinions.
i was driving down a straight road and the speed limit is 70 i know i wasnt running anything over 80 but i know i was over 70, but only by a tad. anyway i was driving down and i saw those little signs that say your speed has been checked and i hit the brakes just incase i was speeding. as i looked at my speedo i was over 70 but only by a bit as i pass the mobile speed camera i was definitely under 70 but i was just wondering what happens if i was running over 70 earlier. will it detect me and fine me? or do they give drivers time to adjust? not sure if that made sense.

Hard to be sure because they have quite the range on them a good 200m as im lead to believe but depending on other cars blocking you etc can all factor in. I thought i got hit by 1 on the way back from the bonfire but i didnt recieve any fines so you may be lucky.

They use LIDAR and not RADAR ...
So other cars are not an issue.. They can pinpoint exactly who is speeding ... No matter how many lanes or vehicles...
The thing is, you don't know how accurate your speedo is... Even changing the tyres can throw a 1 or 2k variance ... And then there is if you have the stock 14's and rubber ...
The machines have a slight tolerance ..But I am not sure what it is...
Ohhh ... And usually by the time you see the signs, it is too late... There was much debate about these devices.. When they first came out, they were able to put the signs after the vehicle... But, I believe a court case was won, and they have to warn you before the vehicle... So you may want to research that if you do get a fine...
Good luck ...

Me and lawso thought we got caught by the mobile speed camera at about within 10k's over but we haven't received anything... This was when we were driving back from the bonfire.
Maybe they have up to +10 tolerance... But I cannot be sure about that.

I know the camera you're talking of as I caught up to you lot and passed the same camera.
Pricks putting it where they did, especially when no road work ever happens on a weekend there.

You should be fine mate - most speed cameras have a tolerance of 10% or 10km, whichever comes first, and the fact that most peoples speedos is around 3-5km faster than what your actually doing, and the fact that if it was anytime apart from a midday cloudless blaring sun, you would have noticed the flash.
If you do end up getting the fine and REALLY dont want to cop it, take your car to someone to get a speedo adjustment, and just prove to the court your speedo was out and they cant really do anything, as its the cars fault and not yours (only if your speedo is under what your doing or get them to say it was

)
Its a real shame the cameras use LIDAR too, cause my V1 doesnt pick them up - only hand held speed cameras and cop car dash cameras - although im thankful for that much

Sorry, but not the case.. As the owner of the vehicle, it is your responsibility to ensure the car is roadworthy.. So if the speedo is out, it is not an excuse..

huh a work collegue of mine a few years back mentioned her husband received a ticket and knew it was wrong, and after a lot of investigating later found that the new tyres on the car threw out the speedo about 8km and managed to get out of the ticket by proving it.
Probably changed since then or was a very lenient judge lol.

Ahh .. Yeah, that is slightly different... If the tyres were to the manufacturers specifications you have grounds to challenge.. But if you put on different rims, then they will just say no ... At the end of the day, it would probably go to court, and depend on the judge.. But I would say they will look at driving history, age, and a lot of circumstances before .. If they see Young/Any infringement/P-Plate/Short tenure driving... well, they will flat out say no ....
Things in NSW are just ridiculous ...
As an example (and it has turned into a joke that a few people know about on the forums) ... But I had an Evo powered Hyundai Sonata... Still FWD ... Was on a cruise with mates, and an auto V6 Tiburon (a mate of mine) were playing around at a set of lights... It was a long weekend so we were not doing anything stupid...
Long story short, a cop Rodeo was 3+ cars behind us.... Reakoned my mate and I were street racing, as he saw black smoke come from my rear tyres when I took off ... And he heard a skid ... (Mind due, the skid was from a third car in the far lane) ... Not me or my mate... We took off up to the 80k limit, and the cops said that we were speeding, cause he had to accelerate "harshly" to catch up ... Well when you are 3 cars behind, WTF do you expect...
But yeah, car went on a 3 month vacation ... Cost me $9 per day, plus towing fee's ... Then there were court costs and solicitor costs on top of that ...
All because of a constable and a probationary constable saw something that didn't exist or happen ...

LOL @ 10%
Its 3%... recently reinforcd by the O'Farrell government after the departing Keneally govt quietly tried to reduce it to zero (Did I hear 'broke government revenue raising?')and thats a variant on the sign... not your car's out of whack speedo... they dont care about that, that's your problem.
Just keep an eye on your mail. If the picture it took aint too fuzzy to read your plate, then say hello to a point & a hundred odd bucks gone.

where does this fact come from?
from factory most speedos (speaking from personal experiance) are a couple of k's under, slap on a set of larger rims and its gonna drop aven more...
as for the speedo, if its out, its your problem... you cant blame the car... no more than you can blame the car for the ability to go over the speed limit
