Hi i'm looking at putting a big ass cannon on the back of my fto. Dont whinge i'm a p-plater i'm allowed to
Its a straight pipe so i'm fairly sure its illegal
Will this affect performance either way? i didnt think it would but then i heard someone talking about back pressure?
And the way i look at it it doubles as an alarm cos aint no way someone could nick it in the night without me hearing it

lol not really an alarm if they've started the engine, wouldn't you be just watching it drive off?

well, you bought it up and they are pressuring you not to get one = back pressure
Actually, the back pressure thing is more about the size of the pipe you put through. If it is too big (diameter) then the back pressure wont be enough and youll lose power (3 inches diameter is too big). Please feel free to correct me if im wrong anyone........

Yeh that's what I always thought it was, 2.5" is perfect for the Fto as we na (well most of us) lol

My old civic had a 3.5' cannon u could fit your damn fist into... lost so much power aswell as used extra fuel... not much more fuel but more never the less... so that sums it up and its ear peircing and sounds like sh*t... your best bet would just be to make your pipes 2.5' pipes the whole way through and go with the stock tips and get a smaller muffler bout 1/3rd of the size.. and this will increase the sound substantially. (this is what i have done to mine aswell as brendon has done to his... so we know from exp... cannons are horrible and they look terrible too)

lol p plater with a big ass fat cannon.. my advice dont do it. im a p plater and getting pulled over is a bitch. youre asking for trouble so dont give a reason for cops to pull you over. and i would hate it if my neighbour had a loud cannon, could you imagine waking up in the middle of the night..

Get a large tin of Milo, empty it out or eat it. Buy a can of chrome spray paint from supercheap/autobarn and spray the Milo tin. Then jam that sucker on the end of your FTO.
OR
Buy a Cannon
=
Douche bag (P Plater or otherwise)
You'll also be cop bait, the bigger the cannon the harder they'll want to f%*k you.

I actually don't mind canons, so long as the whole thing is tasteful and it doesn't like horrid.
A nice HKS system on an EVO with a canon looks neat, and sounds good.
A 5" turbo canon on a Charaded Daihatsu is fkn horrid and I hope the people inside die from asphyxiation.
Having said that, I typically wish them no harm.
(much)
If you spend the dollars on a good quality canon, and a good quality sub muffler to keep the tone low, then the canon can be 'ok' on an FTO (In my opinion).
Meanwhile, if you have stock alloys, do not get a canon, you need a decent set of rims to back the canon up.

alright you guys have convinced me. you and the exhaust guy telling me i could only fit a short cannon. i was talking to him and he said he could fit a full sports muffler and new tip for not much more than a cannon installed. is this a much better option / will just a new straight through muffler make much of a difference?

Will make as much a difference for the same price, and typically more accepted for style, so yeah, will.

If you do dare to get a cannon, If god forbid you do

At least buy quality, stay away from autobarn/supercheap/etc mufflers or generic exhaust shop mufflers...
At least buy something like APEXi, Greddy, HKS, Varex, Kakimoto, etc... <these ones dont look and sound like fecal matter...

My 2 cents is that you invest in something like a full stainless HKS Super Drager system (or something equivelant but i am a HKS man myself) and dont waste your time with a cannon.
99% of cannons look and sound like s**t and are not worth the materials they were made from (once again my opinion

)
I do agree with Astron Boy on the rims, HOWEVER i will personally come knocking on your door with an axe if you decide to put on a cannon, and big 18-20" chrome dish pieces of s**t on a car like the FTO
If you cannot afford a complete stainless exhaust system - then start saving, its not worth anything less for something you will hardly notice, if not negatively as everyone else has stated.

get them to make up 2.5'' piping with a oval muffler like the original in the original place and make it from the cat back but have the pipe bend around to the back of the car like original and then buy a large double tip, theres no real reason that a cannon would make much more noise then a hi flow muffler of the same diamater anyway its just when people go for large diamater and its deeper

Lol why the f**k do you need to pay like double the price for a stainless steel system, its just a waste of money.
Just go a hole system from the catback in mild steel 2.5", no resonators, get it mandrel bent,
buy a 2.5" straight through muffler. Your done, shouldn't need to pay anymore than $450 - $500
