Ive got a 1996 GPX,

When driving it a get a strong petrol smell ,its like too much fuel is getting to the engine, its making the car idle lower when im stopping at lights, not enough to stall it,but close, seems to be worse at times than others, any one have any advice or had similar problems It may be running too rich,,I dont want to put it in to a garage and be charged a lot if its only a minor problem that can be self fixed, last mechanic i visited charged me a lot for things.
Im new to FTOs so theres a lot i dont know about their engines this might be a common thing.Any help would be most appreciated.
Ive just got a pod filter no other engine mods

Also check for possible leaks in the fuel line.

I would say if you can smell fuel you have a fuel leak. Check the connections on the fuel filter, its located on the firewall in a clamp pretty much directly behind the engine.

Check for leaks around the fuel injectors as well.
