Check the spark plugs of the front bank and noticed the ring gaskets have slight leaks. The bottom left well is is the worse when i took the sparkie out, the oil dripped down and coated the whole plug.

Is that something i need to rectify immediately? If so, where can i get the rings cheap locally?

Mine were doing this a little while ago.

It is something that you should rectify soon but I wouldn't stop driving the car just because of this. Avoid reving the motor hard for long periods as oil pressure increases with RPM.

The part you are after is a spark plug seal x 6 but you will probably want to do the rocker cover gaskets while you are there. Mitsubishi Australia will be able to get the parts for you or you could go with camskill.

There is a guide in the diy section about tappets, it covers how to get the rocker covers off to get to the gaskets.

Meek should have them.

Alternatively, the dodgy / temp fix is to nip the rocker cover bolts up a little harder. That'll compress the sparkplug gaskets tighter.

I would probably try to tighten the rocker cover a little more and see what happens as all these were just professionally changed 9months ago.

I also have the problem of the engine eating too much oil. probably around 500ml every 500km. Do you think it is related to the ring leak? The oil might leak and land at the bottom of the sparkplug well and somehow seep through the thread and got burnt?
The sparkies did not feel loose.

Possibly. You see any smoke coming from the exhaust?

under this freezing weather.....yes there is. some white smoke in the morning. but its hard to tell the problem from smoke right?

500ml every 500km!!!! That is a lot!

If they changed the gaskets 9 months ago, I would not be replacing them.

exactly! the problem is i cant trace any visible problems, coolant looks fine, oil looks fine, no visible leaks from undernealth. Only only slight leaks from front plug rings btu dont think its the main problem. Will check the rear plugs.

im using castrol magnatec 10W-40 which is a pretty common grade to use and change oil every 4k.

The FTO holds 4.5L of oil. With a leak of that magnitude you would be running dry after 4000 kms.

As a start, I suggest you get under the car and have a look at where the gearbox meets the motor, if there is oil there, you are leaking oil from your gearbox side crank shaft seal. I would also take the top timing belt cover off (the easy to get to one) and have a look if you are leaking oil from the cam shaft seals. Also check that the timing belt is dry.

thanks. thats why i check the oil level every few days and top it up which have become a habit!

I have mentioned that there is no visible leaks from below. No signs of drips on the parking floor also. They have somehow mysteriously dissappeared!

With the pressure the spark plugs hold inside the actual combustion chamber I very much doubt the air pressure, or even the partial vacum caused by the "suck" phase of the four stroke would be nearly enough to draw in the oil.

Permaseal make a kit for the 6a12. 3 plug seals and rocker gasket for 70. Get them ordered from everywhere.

Check your pcv see if it's blocked as it cab cause oil loss.
