RB26DETT

Seeing as how the car i was after had sold i am now back with the conversion idea on the plate and have been fiddling around with ideas.
I have had my heart set on a 4G63T conversion, but lately i have been thinking, and have the idea of a 3rd gen 3S-GTE supra engine (has been done(and quite well i might add)), possibly a JZ, or for some reason, have been looking into the RB range - and the 26DETT in particular.
Now a lot of people off the bat are going to say it just plain wont fit - it isnt possible etc etc, but i am wanting to know has anyone actually TRIED this before, or done enough theory to prove without a doubt, no matter how u rearrange things or try to do it, it just aint going to happen.
I can only imagine what a GTR engine in an FTO would do (aswell as the price it would entail) but hey - for 5k for a 33 GTR half cut, and a 32 Gearbox, both with 93k on them, i would like to know if anyone out there can give me any info that would be useful, as it is a good start.
I am well aware that this project, if possible would take tens of thousands, and a good part of a year of solid work to pull off, if at all possible - so you dont have to point that out.
On the same note - has anyone done anything in the way of other RB conversions like an 20DET or 25DET ?

Hmm that is a hard one..

Cause you are probably going to have to make up a custom cross member.. Then mounts, then if you can set it forward enough to fit it in, with only a small chop to the fire wall.. Then comes the weight and balance..

I really don't think you will find the answers here.. You are going to have to either pull the car apart and check.. Or take it to a pro, who deals with engine conversions ..

Sr20det. Used in over conversions and cab achieve over 250kw with ease. A smaller engine in terms of physical size compared to the rb26.

iPhone is sh*t, excuse the spelling

There is a cheap way of doing this,it involves selling the fto and buying a supra ,2jz ftw  I wouldnt bother thinking about this conversion you would just be throwing money away lol a supra looks pretty much the same and better than the fto , and the 2jz is far more superior motor compared to the rb,i think this is the sort of question you need ask in the boostcruzin forum.

Also taz i honestly do think it would be possible if your funds were unlimited, but once it is finished you would probably only have a nice drag/drift car, cause you WONT be able to get it enginered, stick with your original 4g63/3sgte plan :thumright:

DEAR GOD NO!
the very last thing i want is a supra. or a commodore. or a skyline etc do you see the pattern there?
one of the very few cars i would willing trade my fto for is a cheap enough EVO that has some heavy modifications done.

Thanks to all the people who have been helpful - i was kinda thinking that will it would be possible, but most likely impractical.
For now i think it is back to the 4G63T - the 3S-GTE has already been done (so has the 4G but meh i dont know them) and is looking pretty good still.
While the FTO GTR would have been nice, i can almost say its back to the EVO FTO. Probably better in the long run for its race/track days over a RB anyway.

Still - DAMN would of been nice to have an RB conversion done...hopefully a tuned 4G will give me a big enough fix.

The 1jz would be a cheaper option than the 2jz and essentially the same engine, and you'll get plenty of power out of it and almost bullet proof.

You can pickup complete 1JZ-GTE engines including twin turbos for under a grand, and the R154 gearbox goes for around $1500. So $2500 for a complete engine/gearbox package. vs closer to $10K for a 2JZ-GTE / V160 package.

But yeah it would be a ton of work to get it to fit ;)
