I'm taking the FTO for my first track day in a few weeks, and its also due for a rego check around the same time, so while its in at the mechanics, I was wondering if there is anything I should get done to prepare it for a track day ?
Ive been told to upgrade to a "racing" brake fluid. Is it worth doing, or anything else ?

Yeah do brake fluid, brake pads if your exisiting ones are worn, check tyre pressures, flush coolant etc & maybe even do a wheel alignment.

In nsw you have to get a road worthy type thing done on your car to renew your rego or something similar to that

And its called a Pink Slip down here or a Blue Slip if the car's been out of rego for 3 months or more.
Dunno why he's being cheeky thou... he's felt the full force of NSW law more than anyone else here *cough* Auto Salon monster fine! *cough*

Remember tarkus and nacho telling me how those south of the border (damn Mexicans) don't need a pink slip every year before they renew their rego.

same here its stupid never have to go unless cops defect you and send you over the pits
In NZ had to do every 6 months for safety I think its best too you should see some of the sh*t boxes on the road that really shouldnt be (incl all the commonwhores

)

Which track u be going? I'm going to the track for the 1st time. Wakefield on 3june. Gona do the lot, fluid for engine, power steering, brake, trans, rad. Still have lot of meat left at the brake but they r just normal ones. Hope they are ok.

I have just been to Wakefield. Really good fun.
I would recommend a good high temp brake fluid and some decent high temp pads for the front.
I went with TRW GP600 Dot 4 Racing Brake Fluid & QFM A1RM pads from GSL RallySports. Cost was $184 for both & $22 delivery back when I bought them in 2010.

.
I'll second that, especially at Wakefield, if you're pushing it around there the brakes will get really hot really fast, as there's not much open track between brake applications to let them cool down.
With a street car you'd be best to do 3 or 4 fast laps at a time followed by a cool down lap.

Just did the Marulan track day on Sunday. Was a heap of fun.
Unfortunetly didnt break out of the beginner group all day. The FTO held its own in the corners but struggled on the straight against the bigger capacity engines.
Could beat most "hot hatches" in the beginners group except for one VW GTi, but I was closing the gap by the end of the session.
Funny thing is, I found that I could do the whole track in 2nd gear. Didnt need to change. 1st was too low (even on the hairpin), and in 2nd I could get up to 105km/hr on the straight without red-lining it.
(My mate in a V8 Ford senator was getting around 120km/hr on the straight)
This lack of gears to chose from probably cost me some time as well.
The FTO was considered one of the best sounding cars out there, so all not lost!

The first few laps I drove like an old lady. But by the end of the session I was giving it a good fang.
Havent been able to stop thinking about how I can improve my lines since.
I think my front shocks needs replacing. Some nasty growning noises coming from the front end, and I heard a big bang from the right front on one of the corners. Cant see any damage, but maybe a shock bottoming out ???
