Engine mount

I was refitting my cross member today (manual if that makes any difference) and noticed that the bolt that goes through the engine mount towards the front of the car was loose. The rear mount appeared to have a metal tube going through the middle of the rubber that reduced the play in the bolt, if that makes sense, but the front mount had nothing but rubber leading to a fair bit of play.

Is my front mount missing something?

The rears I find always have a middle metal insert, don't think I've seen a front one with an insert.

Could be wrong.

In the end it's simply a sleeve to, as you mentioned reduce play, however not overly necessary.

It should still have a thin steel tube in it, just much larger in diametre than the bolt.

Its supposedly a fail safe, so that in the case the engine cops a severe jolt, that mount slips within its area as opposed to ripping a solid mount.
