Rattling noise in steering column

Hi
Ok iv been driving with buckled wheels for a while, and as such I sometimes get a lot of steering wheel shake,
However lately i have notice that whenever I get steering shake I also get a rattling noise coming from my steerin column. This noise also happens whenever I "swerve" around a lot, it seems as if something has broken inside my column. I'm thinking it might be with the boss kit, but I have no experience with them so I wouldn't know what to look for.
All in all, my car is not enjoyable to drive ATM :(

Nah, replaced that a year ago... It also sometimes feels like something is clunking inside it..
Hopefully sometime this weekend I'll get to pull it apart and have a look.

If you still have the stock steering wheel it could be plastic from a broken horn button.

Nope, aftermarket steering wheel and boss kit. I'm more worried about the occassional clunking inside it.
Oh well, everything to do with handling in my car needs an overhaul.

Ok I can clarify a bit more now
The steering wheel feels more loose, and when I wobble the wheel from side to side I can feel something inside it shaking.
Also when I am going over bumps, my wheel sometimes wants to turn uncontrollably.. This is especially so when accelerating.
Not really sure where to start looking for this problem, and I will probably take it to someone over the next couple weeks. (something is definately broken/not right). But should I take it to a mechanic or a suspension shop? I don't really know...
Any ideas on what could be stuffed?

The steering issue will be torque steer (realted to the wheels on the car). The rattline will be something minor.

So do you think that putting on new wheels will fix the issue? I've got new wheels ordered, just waiting for
Them to arrive now, so I'll wait till then and see if that fixes it.
If it doesn't I guess I go see a mechanic?

I would say it is a control arm or bush, rather then the wheels..

DIY-able?
Or PITA - one for the mechanic?
Any way I can check? What am I looking for?

I do occassionally feel something while braking.. I'll start paying more attention. And as for checking them out, I wouldn't know what I am looking for.. :(
Mechanic it is then... I just need to find the time and money now (mostly the latter).

With a problem like that, I would tend to not drive until fixed.. To be safe..

Can I have the $50, because it wan't a snapped swaybar. It was the steering rack. Got it reco'd yesterday and will hopefully be picking up the car this afternoon. Was also a couple d-links and little things, but that was the biggie. :(
Lots of monies out of pocket :( (so the $50 would really help ;) )

Ouch... and ouch for your pocket cause I've never heard of a steering rack doing that, no matter how worn they are.... they're designed not to do that. Tie rods yes, but not the rack itself.

Do you trust your mechanic?
