Hi guys,
Found out whilst servicing my car yesterday that my power steering boot it cracked.
What effect would this have on my power steering? And is it a DIY-able job or something for the mechanic.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated :D

A spilt steering boot will let crap into the grease that surrounds the joint. A crack will eventually turn into a split.

The fix is quite simple if you have the right tools but you will require a wheel alignment afterwards.

It really isn't a huge deal but it is worth fixing but I would wait till you would want to do a wheel alignment anyway.

If you dont move the lock nut on tyrerod end your steering alignment will be the same. The boot will pull over the nut.

I think it is closer to a split than a crac already.
How does it effect my steering? (Just wondering)
And I got a wheel alignment last week... :facepalm2:

Just need the boot lol. Does nothing to the steering, its just a protective boot.

If you drive on decent roads, I wouldn't stress too much. Deal with it next year before your next wheel alignment.

If you frequent unsealed roads, that is a different story. You can always just cover the boots with some gaffa tape to see you through.

Repco sell them for 15bucks. Same as a hj galant.

Just count the turns to take off the tie rod end so you know how to get it about right. Tie rod is a bit of a pain to get off sometimes. Much easier with a ball boing remover.
