low oil

hey guys yesterday driving to work oil seamed low ,light came on every so often so pulled into bp got some oil poured about a litre in was all good after then drove home this morning and the light came on every time i turned hard left , so pulled into a diff bp and got more oil didnt bother checking as the light came on i thought i must have been losing oil so poured in half a litre and got on my way , got home checked how much oil was in there and its like double whats ment to be in there spoke to step dad and he thinks it could be the sensor ,
whats every ones thoughts on it and where is the sensor located

the first thing you shoulda checked was the oil level

did the day befor but seeings as it was low that day and the light came on after the car had sat for 12 hours i didnt bother i figured it must have leaked oil im ment to work tonight cant sleep though yay 2 hours sleep in 24 might go do a oil change befor work

6am after 12 hour shift light on wasnt gona wait for engine to cool to see the right reading just wanted to get home and how often dose a oil sensor ever screw up compaired to leaking oil ( wont hurt it to have to much anyway will just burn oil till it gets down to the right level or untill i go to the shop ( if i can be bothered to get outa bed )

now changed the oil ( but still put to much in due to my driveway not being flat and car to low to get it down on the flat area but its ok just over full )


so back on topic how do i fix this sensor issue where is the sensor located has any one else had this issue befor and how did they fix it
could i fix it or should i give my mechanic a call

Is the light orange, located in the top right and look vaguely like a stomach?

I had the light come on after power steering A/C belt cut the wire to sensor Which is located between crankshaft pulley and the A/c pump.

Problem fixed no idea what caused itbut its gone now and that's all that matter

The oil level when hot/cold while engine if off is bugger all! Surely you could have turn the engine off, pulled the dip stick it would give you an idea where the oil levels are at.

Also isn't pulling the dip stick easier than filling the oil?? :)

WTF? Too much oil just doesn't burn down, it's bad for your engine.
