I just drove it to the shops and it redlined at 6k rpm in first instead of 8k rpm wtf is wrong with it? Is it the engine or the gear box?

Sounds like your alternator is knackered.

if the engine is not at normal operating temp it wont let it rev past 6k as a safety feture

What vipfto meant was that if the car isn't warm enough (ie not up to full operating temperature), it will rev limit you at 6k to protect the engine. Probably shouldn't be revving your car that hard so soon after starting it without letting it warm up properly.

The FTO has a progressive rev limiter... as the car gets warmer, it revs higher... at cold it cuts you out around 6-6.5, then as it warms up it lets you do more...
P.S. just because it lets you rev to 8250, doesn't mean the car is actually ready for it... :p

I always give it a good 10mins of granny drive when the engine is cold. That happened to me before.
If it continues when the car is warm, then what Dras said... Could be the alternator...

Redlining just 'on your way to the shops?'

Judgement.
I do it. I live 15km from shops in the bush. Sealed roads on rural areas are fun. Enough said.

I have an intersection leaving the raaf base which requires me to slot into gaps that the normal corolla wouldn't be able to

so yes i get just before 8000rpm before shifting to second

The only chance I get to redline my car is getting onto the M7 at 100kph.
2 gears & a whole bunch of wheelspin & its all over in a few seconds
