The plastic inside where my gearstick is, is all torn and sometimes makes it really annoying to get into reverse and park.. Is there a way to replace it? And where do I find another peice of plastic for it?

You can take it out. Its not necessary for the operation of the car. To do that, you need to remove stereo surround, take off gear knob and then remove the shifter panel. Itll then unclip and the plastic comes out. Guide on Complete FTO.
Havent got any 2nd hand ones atm. Can get new panels (with the P, N, D, +, - symbols - you cant buy the piece of plastic by itself). To buy the complete unit new is around $110 + postage from Japan.

I only need the bit thats like moving when you change gears if that makes sense lol. previous owner managed to tear it up hardcore.
and its stopping me from going into park and reverse. i have to like push it into gear so hard.

Yep, the only way you are going to get that bit though is 2nd hand as Mitsubishi dont sell that bit by itself. And it commonly breaks, so you may have a little trouble tracking one down (ive sold all the 2nd hand ones ive had)Was just letting you know.

Kate, i was having the same problem.
Instead of breaking my stereo surrounds into further pieces from removing it in order to reach the plastic piece below, i just poked it hard to break it off.
So now it doesn't have anything there and the gear stick moves freely with the whole plastic pieces gone somewhere underneath it.
I assume it's ok for the plastic pieces fall inside/underneath it, as so far nothing happens to my gearbox yet.

I want to look into making replacements for this.
If i can track down a full one or someone takes photos with exact dimensions we could cut out thin plastic sheets to the same effect.

Nah, you would better of making a mould and then pouring it. There is heaps of info on the net to do it and very basic. I just dont have the time or the patience. Some of you young whipper snappers should look into it. With all the different plastic trims out there, on the different cars it could be a good little earner for you.
