Now I know this is not revelant to the good citizens of FTO Aus, but thought I'd pop it up anyway

NSW police launch annual three-day crackdown on drink-driving

2010-11-03 13:10:17

Drink drivers are being warned they'll have nowhere to hide as New South Wales police prepare to launch a 72-hour state-wide crackdown.

Police will target alcohol-impaired motorists during 'Operation Drink Drive II' - - which commences at 0001hrs tomorrow (Thursday 4 November) and concludes at 2359hrs on Saturday (6 November).

Traffic Services Commander, Assistant Commissioner John Hartley, said motorists can expect an increased police presence on major roadways and back streets.

"We'll be out in force to catch those motorists who endanger the lives of others by getting behind the wheel drunk," Assistant Commissioner Hartley said.

"Police will not only be targeting major freeways, highways and motorways but back streets as well - so if you drink and drive, there's the very real chance you'll be caught."

Two people died in separate crashes during the three-day operation last year. Police conducted 126,408 random breath tests and charged 469 people with drink-driving; booked 2517 speeding motorists; and issued infringement notices for 5087 other traffic offences.

"The effect of alcohol on one's ability to drive safely is well documented but everyday we are still catching motorists who put themselves and others at risk by drinking and driving.

"We aim, through this high-visibility operation, to reduce the incidence of drink-driving and associated crashes," Mr Hartley said.
