Gearbox Additive

Stef and I are experiencing grinding into 3rd at high revs and harder shifts especially when cold. I was researching into it and found a product "Nulon G70".
Which can be found here.
http://www.nulon.com.au/products/Manual ... Treatment/
It claims to alleviate the problems that we are having but im not sure is it just a gimmick?
Has anyone else here tried this?
And would i have to drain a little bit of box oil to put it in?

If its happening more when cold, then you're using a grade of oil thats too heavy. That G70 is good stuff, but if wont fix the wrong grade of oil used.

And did you have these issues prior to changing the oil? Its the same oil you used in Stefs car too yeah?

Yeah we had the same issues prior, it seems to have helped, the tiniest bit.
We were going to try and bleed the clutch and failing that make sure the pedal is pushing the master cylinder all the way if u get what i mean.
Failing that, the additive.

Mate I used the Penrite SIN in my racecar for a couple of events, fucks your synchros! Get rid of it and put in MOTUL Gear FF-LSD Competition Type 2 if you have an LSD or someone else can recommend what to use for non LSD. But get that Penrite out of there asap. It is no good with our gearboxes!

What do u mean it fucked up your synchros btw? how did you tell? I just dont want to go spend another $60 for no reason lol

Trust me, another $60 vs the cost of a gearbox rebuild... = spend the $60+
When I drained the oil prior to Penrite, nice and clean, when I drained the Penrite, full of very tiny little specks of brass! I've since drained it several times since replacing the Penrite and no more brass...
100 points for guessing what synchros are made of

LOL oh well ill get it a bit later, i dont drive my car atm no license.
Stefs oil was really shiny when i drained it (unsure of what oil though), like i could see a fuckload of shiny specs in it.
Are u sure it was just the penrite? *sigh* i hadnt seen any bad reviews on it and it matched the FTO's specification for gearbox oil and penrite has a good reputation. I feel awful now putting it in stefs car.

Yep, synchro specs lol!

Yep agree, Penrite is generally considered a pretty good oil, but just no good for our boxes. Different manufacturers do use different materials in their gearboxes. Whatever Mitsi use, the Penrite is not good for...
The Motul on the other hand was specifically developed for Evo boxes, and is perfectly matched to our boxes (with LSD).

i cant find synthetic gear oil apart from redline.
Ive been doing a lot of research and it appears to be the GL rating that does it. We used a GL4/5 which is meant to be okay but it mustnt be with the fto. :/
To all the manual gearbox owners out there, what gearbox oil do you use?

Im just going to go with the Nulon here

Its definetly just GL4 too.

Yeah, that'd probably do. Im using Valvoline, but its the limo diff stuff.

Would a synthetic blend stuff be okay in FTO gearbox, because that nulon stuff would be $140 cos ill be covering his gearbox oil as well seeing as i put the wrong stuff in it.
I also found this from penrite.
http://www.penriteoil.com.au/products/g ... ear_oil_80
It has the API-GL4 rating.

Good god, $140 for 4 litres? I paid $30 for 4 litres of the Valvoline stuff...

Yeah for that money I'd be buying Redline, or even put the Motul in, should be just as good for non LSD.
