Input shaft bearing

I have a second hand manual gearbox that I bought from a wrecker (still under the 3 month warranty and still not fitted to my car) and the input shaft has a bit of play in it, I can move the very tip of the input shaft up and down about 1 mm and in and out about 1 mm. The box has done about 140,000km.
Is this normal or do the bearings need to be replaced?
If it is rooted, is it worth trying to recondition the box or should I be trying to get my money back?

Hi Dras The up and down at the ends OK But the in and out is not good Just check the in and out again. I got one a few weeks back thougth the same thing (rooted) After I got it in it work ok .The clutch plate holds the shaft centeral Fit with new clutch and presser plate Use the right oil in the box.
I used castrol syntrax 75w-90 Watch out for the axle drive shafts ,splines can be differance Look up the hole in your new box If there is a cross shaft it is a limted slip diff you need short spline drive .
If you can see right thought the hole it normal diff Long spline axle fit in this one check all this before you pull the box out. I just look at the box I took out it has a lot of movement in the shaft It was runing ok it had too heavy a oil in it and i thought the syncorow were tedd That why i changed it.Decision is yours.I wound put it in and give it a go.Best of Luck.

Thanks for the reply storm hawk.
I bought the box to convert my tip Fto to a manual and it came with the required driveshafts (and an LSD).
I double checked the in and out movement and both in neutral and in gear there is about a 1mm movement.

But I still put it in if your got all the gear change setup, clutch peddel slave and master cylinder and fly wheel.
I would try it before your warrant is all over bar the shouting. AT each other. If it cactus

get your old box recondition while it still in your car.
I hope you did not buy from the leb in Greenace my warrant run out after i walk across the road went back no go.
You must have paid 4 arms 2 legs for the set up.I paid $750 bear box with the best half Its life gone.

I don't think this is correct. If you have a look at the manual it clearly shows that the standard diff has a cross shaft that would be visible looking through the hole where the driveshafts go, so this shaft does not designate this as LSD.
Does anyone have a manual or schematic for the factory LSD?
Or have one they could take a picture of through the driveshaft hole?

I can confirm that I have a '94 tip box with no LSD that does have a cross shaft and a '99 manual box with a factory LSD that has no cross shaft.

Dras, any chance you could post up a pic of both?
Stormhawk, I think you have them the wrong way around. The non LSD definitely has a cross shaft, this is what holds the pinion bearings in place. The manual doesn't lie lol!
PS: Stormhawk, the last 2 lines of your post are incomprehensible
I have absolutely no idea what you're saying...

Yes that's INCOMPREHENSIBLE
I set it up in columns then i type it in: But after posting it turn out that way:It bunch it all up and made it INCOMPREHENSIBLE.
P.S Best stay with the manual lol

Some manual they read them up and down and we read left to right and you lose some thing moving them left to right and you end up and down.
