Smoking left wheel - not driving on hand brake

Hey all,

Pulled up at home last night around 11.30pm, on a rainy fri night and noticed that my rear left disc brake was red hot!

Recently I have been hearing a 'knocking' or 'tinging' noise from the rear left wheel while sitting in the drivers seat while driving.

Last night I heard the same noise while on the drive home, so at the red light I pulled the handbrake all the way up and also pressed the brake firmly. On the green light I released both and pressed the gas but I noticed that the car was not moving normally - i could feel the brake actually holding the car now even through I was not pressing the brake and the hand brake was fully flat.

I had the brakes inspected about 5 months ago as I had a similar issue back then, was driving along and my rear left wheel started smoking. Because i was 99% confident i wasnt driving with the hand brake I had them inspected and the brakes dude told me that if the pads malfunctioned and clamped the disc brake they would stay there and he would be able to tell if there was an issue, but becuase they wernt permanantly clamped when he was inspecing he said they were okay.

any ideas?...i was def not driving on the hand brake.

If the hand brake cable seizes up does it need to be completely replaced and if it so does anyone know any supplier that stocks generic replacements?..I've heard its hard to source a fto hand brake cable. Cos my mechanic mate is overseas it looks like im going to have to take my car to a brakes plus or equivelant...Im affriad their going to serve me with a nicely inflated bill.

Calipers a piece of piss to refurb, get a kit from Camskill sent out and it has pretty much everything you need.
