Just had to call the fire brigade

So I had my car parked on an incline and the petrol went through the overflow, ate through the silicone on the fuel cap and started pouring from the car.
Called RACQ and they immediately called the fire brigade. Made a huge deal out of nothing, although admittedly I had no idea what to do.
Basically, I need to replace the entire fuel cap thing but have no idea how to go about this. Can anyone please offer some assistance?

just buy a generic cap from any auto store

No, the actual attachment has come off so there is nothing to screw on to. I'll put up pics soon to show.

I mean, did you overfill your tank or something coz i park my car on a steep incline regularly and mines not pissing fuel everywhere.

Tank was three quarters full. The problem is that it was a hot day today, thus the petrol expanded substantially and overflowed.
The incline was pretty steep, mind you.

no way it would just happen in the click of your fingers, likely it was already perished when you parked

You're probably right, bur it was parked there for a number of days without moving.
I'm still yet to figure out how to repair it...

It shouldnt leak out as the pipe "normally" doesnt have a hole in it. Ill have a couple of spare ones of those though. May even be able to find one without the crappy ADR unleaded fuel bit they added during compliance for the early models imported (wasnt required later on).
