Whats wrong with K&N? Is it that racecars the world over use them?
I'd never even heard of Simota till a few weeks ago
Thats a pretty good price too.

K&N is probably one of the most respected air filter in the industry. Simota is crap.

a panel filter is a normal filter. its the square one that goes in the factory airbox.
the circular shaped one is a pod filter

HKS mushroom one is about $150 on ebay, i think its the best one for the fto but i could be wrong. pretty useless if your not gonna box it and get cold air into it

Another myth as far as Im concerned. Still get the horsies regardless. Just get a fraction more with a cold feed.

simota might not be popular down under but very popular in asia. quality will surely put up a good fight against other big guns in filters.
but from the look of the k&n panel filter....the glueing process seems unregular?
read from some articles about small NA engines that high flow panel filter is the way to go as they do not lose as much torque at low rev than having a pod. but pod produces more high-end torque and give a more throaty sound.
also i guess why many people go for pods/mushrooms are partly to show off. Imagine you paid hundreds of dollars for the intake setup, you will want it to be seen!
why not try 3A? heaps cheaper and tested to match against other big brands in terms of filtering and flow.

all good, ended up pulling off the stock system, and I've got a K&N filter to attach on now.. just have to figure out how...
haha, didn't realise the stock pipe was 4"

When its time to clean my UniFilter, I'll take it out along with the homemade aluminum box and buy a K&N panel filter to reuse the stock box. It will be connected to the throttle body via the UAS pipe still, but wont be using a front ram pipe, just that big hole at the box's inlet.
It will still make noise from what I observed from my mate Olly's car and apparently he noticed a tiny torque increase on the bottom end rev range when he put the stock box back in - he used to use the unifilter.
I suppose a good panel filter = good bottom end and a pod = good high end?

All depends on air velocity in the pipe, not the filter.
The longer the air tight section of intake pipe is, the faster the air speed will be, the better the low down torque response will be.
The shorter the pipe, the slower the air velocity, the better the top end performance.

you can fit a pod into the stock airbox man.

Ok so this morning we picked up the K&N pod filter, and we popped up to bunnings to grab a better clamp, so now I have the stock pipe attached to my filter,
and WOW I was seriously blown away by how much LOUDER it is now

Pretty pleased by it,
Don't know about power gains, does feel a bit smoother, but I've driven it all day in boots so it hard to tell..
Will build a box in a couple weeks to stop it from being so illegal.. haha
(And to get more cold air into it

)
